Hurley, anyone ever heard of them?
Hi, I believe my 2nd rotor blew a apex seal and I am looking to get a rebuild with a street port. I've been calling around and this one place says they dont recommend I do the 3mm upgrade, but instead...use hurley apex seals. They say hurley's last longer. Anyone here ever heard or used these? I want to know whats the better way to go.
Also...I have been getting quotes around 2400, is this good?
rebuild:
full rebulid with upgraded corner seals
street port/polish
3mm apex seals or hurly seals

Ok he has a T2, I just looked it up.
Why would he need ceramic seals? He certainly doesn't need 3mm. Just order some 2mm Atkins seals. They are an upgrade over stock and will suit your needs just fine. Upgraded corner seals aren't going to really net you any gain at all either.

I'm going to run the RA seals, already have them... I suppose I'll find out how they are through trial.
I have heard both positive and negative... perhaps they don't seat as well as other brands because they're so hard, so it takes a much longer time to break them in... but once they're broken in, all is good.

I don't know. I haven't had a chance to look at price conversions from british, but they look like they know what they're doing. If the pricing is reasonable, I would look into them. The mazda seals are out for anyone trying a rebuild, being that they have been having problems with the new 2-peice design from what I have heard (They like to fall apart real fast). In the end, it just comes down to what you want to do. It's your money, we can't tell you how to spend it. Just be smart, look at the upsides and downsides of each seal, then decide for yourself which gets the bid.

Sorry for the double post, my pc hung up in the middle, so I thought it didnt work. Well heres what Im looking to do, I'm leaning towards a t4 upgrade, so I want something that will last. The company builds these motors based on your request, then you give them yours as a core. Those RA seals....arent those really expensive? Also...someone mentioned that upgraded corner seals are not needed?
What do most people with mild upgrades use, I want it too take a beating..and last.

I would believe that RA is having a bit of trouble with their shipping, though, two/three weeks ago, thier shop was under water due to flooding in Florida.. I can tell you that I had to break down my engine @ 6000 miles with RA seals (my fault, not theirs), and the seals looked great. I really need to get new housings, but that's nothing to do with them.. they looked like the day I got them. They really are excellent people to work with, too.. they rushed me a new seal kit directly from their supplier/warehouse, even though their shop was under water... very cool of them.

Most builders agree that hurley seals suck. they are very soft and break easily. Many builders wont even install them in a turbo rotary because of that. They should be fine for a street nonturbo rebuild, but I wouldnt use them in any performance engine.
Way back when, when I first started building my own engines, I actually looked at them because of their low cost. I sent email after email to those fools and they never even responded to earn my business.
I wouldn't fool with them for BOTH of those reasons. Go with atkins or rotaryaviation, or mazda stock seals for that matter, all of which seem to be well proven.

Werd... for a few extra bucks??
Might as well buy some new rotor housings for the price you'd pay for ceramic seals.

RA shipped them insanely fast for me, which I thought was funny with all the reports of shipping delays because I really didn't care how soon they got here... they've just been sitting around for a week or two now. ;P
