Thanks
ummm those w7's are massive...even the 8" have a huge ***-end. I "think" they also need alot more volume space than the shock tower is going to give...assuming you can even fit an 8" in the tower.

Just build a box for the subs. 4 speakers sounds much better than 2. Especially if your running 2 10" subs. Plus under the hatch is a much better place for them acoustically.
If your doing this to a convertible than **** it, acoustics are gonna suck anyways. Invest in a hard top or something. Never heard a convertible of any make that sounded better than "OK".

no box for me ive got 4 4inch sony speakers in there rite now and i want some bass so ill check out the 8 but no box for me my car is gutted and drift ready nothing slides around but my car ....
I was planning on putting 8" subs in the rear towers also. So they fit fine? No cutting needed? The only thing I was worried about was the depth of the towers, I didn't know if 8"s would fit depth wise.
What 8" subs are you guys using? I was planning on using these Rockford Fosgates: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-kbL0PTb...i=575P18S4#Tab

8'' subs fit perfectly in the rear shock tower mounts and you CANNOT go any bigger, period. I was going to do this, in fact i have the twin 8's ready to go, but i'm re-thinking my plans and minimizing weight, so maybe find a place to tuck one boxed and ported sub, amy under the bin area, as i'm turning my bin area into a place to hold my targa roof section.

I have competed with two 10" solo-baric kickers on a McIntosh 500 watt amp, and done pretty damn well. The rx7 coupe is a dream for audiophiles. It is extremely bass efficient but having the subs under glass instead of upholstered ceiling will make a big difference.
Why would your box slide around??? Fasten it down. Mines held down by the stock luggage straps and its never budged.
WIth 2 10" subs decently powered you are gonna over-saturate with bass only running the front speakers.
I built 2 panels that stuff 10" subs in the corners of the hatch, facing each other but angled up slightly. Sounds really nice and clean without sacrificing too much hatch space. Now I can keep my golf clubs in the car all the time
I will try to find some pics of it if possible......otherwise I will take some tomorrow after I wash and clean my car to give you some ideas.

i put 2 kicker comp 8s in the towers, bridged and powered by a 500 watt Xplod amp, rounds out the sound real nice, but not annoyingly loud like some cars thta rattle things loos and you can't hear the trebel. this is the set up I'm sticking w/ except maybe a diff amp (something that looks better than an all red xplod) but sound wise its good. you don't even need a lot of power, a guy i work w/ has 150 watt amp powering 2 10s, they hit harder than two 12s, you just gotta know your stuff.

That's because in the mobile audio business...generally you do get what you pay for...a cheap amp...is most likely going to be very overrated...so that 1000watts of power they advertise is probably at best ...half that. On the other hand that $500 150watt amp is probably very underrated and can put out ALOT more than 150 watts and it'll probably be a super clean signal. I still say...mounting a sub in the towers is questionable...unless you can seal off the space and then calculate the volume in the tower so that you can match a sub to that volume of space. IF you do this...then they would work great...other than that...build a box, or fiberglass something in with the right specs....then again...audio is all personal preference....I'm just really picky about what I say sounds "good".
ok guys dont put any subs in those two holes back there just get a box subs and amp and make so u can take out if car whwn u wanan race it or something that what i would do
