how to test starter?

How would I go about to testing a starter when it is not installed on a car? Thanks

Most auto part stores have a device for testing starters and alternators. Some of them don't even charge you for using them.

check the FSM it actually SHOWS YOU STEP BY STEP HOW TO do the testing.
