look under the hood

if you see an intercooler you're golden

unless it has a frount mount ... then you wont even have to lift the hood to tell ...

just look at the front of the car .. lol

A good indication would be the sticker in the door jamb... If it says "205/55/R16" then it's either a TII or a S5 GTUs... Doubt anyone would try to pull a GTUs off as a TII though, being it's more rare...

What year is it? The door jam thingy is a good idea though if it's there.

kinda like that except i have a haltech and way less **** under my hood. the deal is i bought the car thinking it was turboII, then my buddy comes over and hes like, no aero mirrors, no sideskirts, manual mirrors, no turboII sticker, maybe its a swapped car. its 5 lug, has the tII gauge cluster, obviously the turbo motor, i checked the door jam, it had the right tire size so im guessing its authentic. i tried the faq but found it useless, anything else guys?

'91 wouldn't have the TURBO II stickers on it. Sunroof on it? Like Alex said, only the T2 and GTU would have 225/16/50 on them. What are the brakes, 4 piston? Pop some pics up if you can.

directly from the faq, I don't know if I would call this useless:
What does the VIN number mean/break down??

The North American Vehicle Identification Number breaks down like this:

RX-7 86-88 (8/85 - 12/88)
JM1 FC 33 1 * G 0 ######
JM1= Mazda Passenger Car
FC = RX7 Series
33= Coupe
35= Convertible
1= 1308cc 13B rotary non-turbo
2= 1308cc 13B rotary turbo
*= Check Digit
G= 1986
H= 1987
J= 1988
0= Hiroshima Plant
######= Serial Number

RX-7 89-91 (12/88 - 7/91)
JM1 FC 331 * K 0 ######
JM1= Mazda Passenger Car
FC= RX7 Coupe
33= Coupe
35= Convertible
1= 1308cc rotary non-turbo
2= 1308cc rotary turbo
331= Coupe w/auto shoulder belt
332= Coupe Turbo w/auto shoulder belt
333= Coupe w/o auto shoulder belt
334= Coupe turbo w/o auto shoulder belt
351= Convertible w/o airbag
352= Convertible w/ airbag
*= Check Digit
K= 1989
L= 1990
M= 1991
0= Hiroshima Plant
######= Serial number

Build dates by serial number:
Model year-----Production Date----Serial Number
1986--------------8/85 - 6/86------100001-200000
1987--------------6/86 - 7/87------500001-600000
1988-------------7/87 - 12/88-----600001-700000
1989------------12/88 - 12/89-----700001-800000
1990------------12/89 - 11-90-----800001-900000
1991--------------8/90 - 7/91------900001-950000

look at the vin number.

it should start with JM1FC33x

If in place of the x, there's a 1, then it's an NA. If it's a 2, then it's a turbo.

I think. :p

There was not GTU in 91, so if it says that tire size then it's athentic....if it is a 91

Yeah, I was just saying a '91 Turbo would not have the stickers on it since his friend mentioned they were missing. Still curious about all the changes on the car though with the mirrors, aero package, etc....

Could have switched the mirrors and the aero package could have been removed, I removed mine when I got my car cause it was all busted up and looked like ****.

Well either it's converted or the previous owner broke a mirror, could not find a replacement and change both sides with manual mirrors (unlikely? maybe) what is the vin number, I'm curious now, real curious.
