how to tell if it's a newer engine.

I'm not to sure what year my motor is. The previous owner claims that it is a later model. I was looking at someones post this morning and they said that there engine was a 90' n/a and doesn't look one bit like mine. Could it just be that my engine has the block from a 91 and nothing else? Thanks

The new (series 5) style Dynamic surge tank doesn't have large fins and has lifted lettering, like this (upper right hand corner):

The series 4 has a prounced heat sink and recessed lettering on the dynamic surge tank

Why do you think your block's different? They're virtually identical externally.
You'll need more than just a S5 block to make S5 power. Many of the improvements were bolt-ons.

Yeah, well the top injector assembly is the synclined writing. But the owner told me that it was possibly a 92 engine. Maybe he doesn't know what he's talkin about!?

On a turbo, the dead give-away is the knock sensor on the rotor housing.&nbsp I don't think the NA has these extra bungs right over the trailing spark plugs...
