Major brake booster problems...
Recently, I installed Hawk HP Plus pads on my '86. Soon after, I noticed that when the car was cold, the pedal would require more pressure to brake. When warm, it operated perfectly. Now, it seems like the brake booster is entirely gone. Really hard pedal- a lot of pressure required to brake, and it is pretty much constant with occasions in which is works fine (5-10 percent of the time).
Does anyone know where I should start? Vacuum lines? Booster itself?
I an extremely busy and it is my only operational car. I need to drive it around all day, so I don't have all the time in the world to tear it apart.
I hope the Rex gurus can help.

Check the check valve first. It is the big vacuum line that connects to the upper right of the booster. You should be able to blow through it only one way. It holds pressure int he brake booster. When you take it off you should hear a whoosh of air rushing out. If not, it is probably the booster. If you have to change the booster, you can get a used one. They do not wear out very often.
To put in a new booster you will need:
12mm wrench, 10mm line wrench, 12mm deep socket, ratchet with long extension, 10 mm socket, set of needle-nose pliers. It is really easy to change.
