I say it would be difficult unless bearings are totaly shot. Check play...I believe in/out <.004 is acceptable. You could turn the hub to see if any noise, but like I said very difficult, no weight on the bearings.

Sorry that post was for the rear bearings.
Fronts-clean up bearings in hub and check for noise or looseness while turning hub. Very difficult without being able to get brgs. out and look at them. Clean them up and spin them.
If it's the fronts, maybe you'd rather buy new ones and put them in even though it's a pain.

been there, done that, need to do it again. mine was making a horrible noise from the front right. problem was, my hub was stuck to my rotor. not only that, but the outer race on the inner bearing is a bitch to get out. pep boys couldn't punch it out. they recommended taking it to a place that could heat it up and tap it out. (they were nice, though, didn't charge me) i ended up buying a hub/rotor from a junkyard. its a temporary fix.
you say you can get a hub for $25, but i don't see what good that would do. if your bearings are out, replace those, not the hub (someone correct me if i'm wrong). and by the way, you'd probably know if your bearings were out. going straight or turning left and it would make a horrible noise, but turning right would make the noise stop until i straightened up again. that was also a good clue.

If you're worried about the rear, you might as well buy the bearings, they're about $35 each and very meaty so I doubt you'd run into problems with them for awhile.

Given the fact that Mazdatrix has been around for a long time and has dealt with alot of rx7's.... I still do not trust their method. Cutting part of the hub away to be able to punch the bearings out is just not (in my mind) safe. I still would be very hesitant to pay the 460 dollars for a new hub and bearings. I would just look at a pair of used ones until I could find a very professional solution.

It's not an engine mod where it may or may not give HP based on quality, it's a situation where if the unit fails after you've made modifcations to it... I can't imagine the results would be pretty.
