how to remove wheel studs

how to remove wheel studs

anybody know what are the steps to doing it ? i need to replace all of them and got all the studs but dont know how to go about taking them out

Usually you can just bang them out with a good mallet or something, but sometimes that is not enough, sometimes need pressing out if the mallet doesn't do it.

so i dont need to remove my brakes ? or anything someone told me i had to take the calipers out and stuff ...

Well yeah it would be a good idea to unbolt them and move them out of the way, you don't want to hit them, and yeah the do get in the way of the removal process as well.

so just the calipers and discs ? i have to swap my flex lines out anyways there rotten and i have the new set already

Just the calipers, I was able to get them out with the discs still on, but to each there own.

I know that the FC Front wheel studs are pretty simple to get at.I would do it by taking the bearing Hub assembly off and atacking the wheel studs with an OLD wheel nut on the stud and hammering the **** out of it until it Popped it off the Hub.( I had to change studs out and that worked OK.)
NOW the Back assembly is a Different PIE all together.
I am almost Positive that you are going to have to take Bearing/hub assembly OFF the rear assembly all together,.and That means gettihg the bearing pressed out and Put back on once the Studs are Placed back in.
PNOY..Pm SCARS (Ottawa).he just did a Stud and bearing replacement on his FC and he should be able to tell you how he got his Done.I know that he had a shop do the rear bearings at the same time.

i use an impact hammer, i can get studs out in 10 mins.

Then to install studs i use several washers and an open top lug nut and use a impact wrench to pull the studs in the hub.

pulling studs on using an impact is not the best idea...if they are press in studs use a press, vice....whatever to press them in....the other way is pretty hard on the threads....think of the torque you are putting in those studs to seat them.

i just bang them the **** out with a regular hammer. be careful though, as you can mushroom the tip and then they wont come out and just forcing them out will **** **** up. put lug nuts on the studs, and when they are loose, undo the lug nuts and you are good to go.

If you hammer out the wheel studs in the rear, you will destroy the bearing. The bearing ***** ride in a cage that is decimated when you hit the hub with a hammer hard enough to get studs out. The best way to do rear studs is to loosen the rear axle nut, remove the rear caliper, remove the rotor, pull the whole floating hub assembly, press out the hub, press out the studs, rinse repeat.

In the front, you can do it without removing the hub but it's so easy to pull the hub, might as well just pull it and use a press. Do it right.
