How to Remove the VDI Manifold
How to Remove the VDI Manifold
I'm replacing the oil injector lines on an 89 GTU and to get to the oil injector side of the lines I have to remove the VDI manifold. I have everything off down to the VDI and have removed all the 3 bolts and 2 nuts on the passenger side of the manifold and two bolts on the drivers side. I can't see any thing else holding the manifold on but no matter how hard I pull it will not budge at all.
Is there something I've over looked. I've checked my Haynes manaul and don't see anything else to remove. I even took a rubber mallet and thumped it a few times to encourage it to loosen but so far it is holding tight. Anybody with any experience with the VDI removal?
The engine was rebuilt about 2.5 years ago so it has been taken off and replaced fairly recently.

So far and up 'til now all has gone so smooth. I haven't broken a bolt and only broke one vacuum line. Haven't had anything to cuss about up 'til now. I did a forum search for VDI removal and found no help there either. This all started when I broke one of the injector lines a few months back while replacing the water pump and that didn't happen until I was putting the injector lines back on the OMP. I've been doing premix since but got a complete set of injector lines from mazdatrix and thought this weekend I'd finally tackle the job.
I know that there has to be people out there who have removed the VDI on a rebuild or some other engine work. I will take it slow and gently persuade it to come off somehow. Just looking to learn from other's experiences.

Problem solved. Just had to pull hard enought to break the sealant used with the gasket. I got on the passenger side of the car and got a good grip on the drivers side of the manifold and then leaned back pulling on the high side of the manifold. It finally popped and came right off. Now to find another gasket and scrape all the old gaskt off. Luckily I have a Dremel tool for that.
