Adjusting Brake Booster pushrod?

How exactly do you do this? I have the mc off, but the whole pushrod/booster assembly looks sort of fragile and I don't want to cause any additional brake problems.

There is a cap on the end w/a 7mm hex section that is threaded onto the rest of the pushrod. Do you have to unscrew this to adjust the lenght? And if so, can you use pliers to keep the other portion stationary? Again, I just don't want to damage any of the booster internals, so any advice is appreciated.
