Brace engine from top, using steel or wood, you can lower the subframe, you can use a ratchet strap on the brace and you can get your hands in there.

not that hard.

take two wooden horses and put them between the car. take some 2x4's and put them across the horses to create a bridge so to speak. use rope or chain to attach to the engine hoist points. wedge something between the 2x4's and the horses so that its starting to pull the engine upward.

unbolt the passenger motor mount, and unbolt it from the chasis, then unbolt the oil pan.

remove old gasket or gasket material, and put new gasket in place. bolt pan back on, bolt engine mount to the engine. undo the rope or chain on the 2x4's and then bolt the motor mount in place.

or you can put a jack under the transmission, jack it up until the passenger side mount is unloaded and place stands under the subframe. undo the passsenger side mount and the rest is straightforward.

lowering the subframe is only necessary for FDs.
