how to remove ignition cylinder?
so i am trying to remove the ignition cylinder to get the lock out but cant get the damn thing off. ive searched but everything i found had to do with removing the switch. well, i have the switch out but cant get the rest apart? do i have to bust out the cut off wheel? grind off the rivets? does that gold circular plate come off to reveal the bolts holding the two pieces together?

i just took a cut off wheel and made a grove in the top of two rivets on the gold plates. Those are actually bolts, and the heads are designed to break off when tightened down. Then you can just use a screw driver and remove them.

Ya.Adam, you can drill them out,or dremel them,Whatever. They will be useless afterwards,so just get a couple small 10mm Nuts and Bolts to replace them.Fairly straight forward stuff though. You should be able to handle it!.LOL!
Same answer as above. I used a Dremel cutoff wheel to cut a slot in the heads of the bolts to fit a screwdriver. Then screwed them out. I removed the combination meter so I could get a screwdriver shank in there.
The bolts are still useable that way. Just screw 'em back in when you reinstall the thing. You might also try using a pair of duckbill pliers on them and try to screw 'em out that way. Worked on one car, not the other.
Talking the heads on the top of the outfit, not the bottom.

The irony of things, cause I just did this yesterday when I swapped my steering column for a new tilt one...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Since I had my column already out I just used my MIG and welded a little snot on the bolts, then used a pair of vice grips to unbolt them. But I guess a drimel would have been just as effective…

i just take a screw driver and a hammer and spin the bolt that way, they arent tight, usually.
when i put it back together i just use normal headed bolts, the break off ones dont slow anyone down....
