How rare is the clear sunroof?

I have an '87 Sport with the factory installed clear sunroof. I've never seen another one, except for in books and I was wondering how rare they are. Anyone else have the clear sunroof?

You mean glass?
I've seen people buy them off of I think e-bay. But I've only seen people say they have them about 3 times so they're pretty rare

Is that an electric sunroof? The dealer sales brochure doesn't mention an optional glass sunroof. There are aftermarket companies that did have a glass sunroof for cars but I'm not sure if its a replacement piece or if its the entire kit for a car without a sunroof.

I got mine off of ebay about 4 years ago from some guy.. It was still in the original box, looked like it had never been opened up. This is the information that I have heard, and dont' quote me on this cause I may have the company name messed up. There was the more common one which was glass, made by a company called Pacifica or something I believe. You can tell this one cause it has four little rubber circles sitting on top of the glass where it mounts from underneath.

I have the more rare one, no idea on the company, and I have never seen another like it in person. It is not glass but Lexan and is extremely light weight. Here is a pic.. I can take some better close up ones if you guys would like.

Holy Crap- Beautiful car!
I will be making one in the spring out of lexan, It's actually very easy.
Anyone who is considering it though- make sure you get a silver-shaded uv-reflecting tint (not regular darkened tint) Otherwise you have a greenhouse!

This is only to the best of my knowledge; but I believe there is actually no such thing as a stock glass sunroof available for the FC. Someone, please correct me if I am wrong. But the 2nd gens came only in hardtop or sliding moonroof; no glass. I think whats on your car is an aftermarket job; either installed on the HT or made to replace the factory steel unit. VaughnC or some other guys probably know more about this than I.

My friend had a glass one on his 87 SE. It just popped up instead of sliding, so I think it was aftermarket.

It's electric and sliding, same as stock. I have seen in a book that some came with the glass sunroof. It has a yellowish tint on it too, I'll have to see what the company name on it is.

I've got a 1988se with a glass sunroof (it's electrical powered and slides back). I've heard it's a factory option. I know they are very rare though.

Marco.

my 88 base had a glass roof on it. i had the origigional metal one new in a box that i sold on ebay. this one was actual power and actual glass. on the inside it had metal pieces on the sides of it where it covered motor parts or something.

guess it was rare.. i dunno.. lol it was always open when it wasnt raining so i really didnt care if it was glass or not

I've been looking for about 8 months now. The OEM part # is still valid, but there's 0 inventory. I've checked the US, Japan, and Australia.

I would love to have one eventually.

Make one for yourself - check my avatar - 1/4" uv bronze lexan - it's not an easy job but well worth while.

Mine is glass. I didn't know they were rare. I find it very annoying though. In the summer, there isn't a cover for it, and it gets hot as hell. I thought that they were called moonroofs if they are glass.

Factory ones under the FinishLine name had no holes for mounting, I believe the mounting studs were integral to the glass. Pacific moonroofs manufatured here in Huntington Beach, CA have the studs as separate peices. Both are very rare, especially Pacific since they don't have the mold for the moonroof anymore. Just try to find one and you'll see you need to pay an arm and a leg to get one. I found one and it cost me plenty.

Actually it's the other way around I believe. The clear ones are sunroofs and the solid ones are moonroofs. At least that's how it was explained to me. I could be wrong
