ON How rare, average price of S4 GXL?

Hi, been lurking the forums and reading the various threads for a while. I wasn't sure if I should have posted in this forum or Canadian, sorry about that. I am fast approaching my self made deadline of when to purchase an RX7 (mid-April to May). Currently I have about $2.5k CAD saved in cash and should have around $5k-$6k CAD by then. Just wonder though what is the average price for a N/A GXL, and how rare are they? It seems on Kijiji (in the GTA/Toronto area) most of the cars are either trash, base model or have something wrong with them (only GXL now is a V8, automatic swapped car). Thanks for your time

PS-Why do people throw piston engines into such a unique car? I guess they like the looks or handling?

you need to lurk more.. lurk the for sale section and ebay. 6k$ in funny money should get you a pretty decent turbo car.

s4na gxl=500-1000$

I have checked the Canadian sales board time to time. Only problem I have with eBay or the board is that most of the time it's either in the US, or in a different province like Alberta or BC. I don't think I could afford shipping it (and I don't have the time to drive there and back).

Just curious though, is there any import fees (not taxes but paperwork), or registrations that have to be done to a car brought in from the US?

i got my s4 na GXL for $1150 usd. it was running rough but the body was in perfect shape besides a dent in the drivers side fender, and its not bad. the paint was 8/10 still very shiny. all it needed was a tune and some suspension. it had 150k on the clock when i got it and its got over 158k now and it still runs strong. starts up no prob and only flooded on me once. they are definitely out there so keep looking.

I can't see a knowledgeable seller letting a mint s4 GXL go for less than $2000 unless they were desperate.

I wouldn't bother with eBay. Watch your GTA paper of choice, Kijiji and pick up the Auto Trader when you see it. Auto Trader will probably be your best source. There still seems to be a regular trade in FCs up here so it shouldn't take more than a few months to pick one out that fits.

Lemmie skew your averages...

I got my Daily, a 1986 GXL for $250... Front bumper and fenders needed replaced due to rust and wreck damage. Other than that, the car is rust free. (I've replaced the bad body parts. She's good now, just needs paint.) Original owner too...
He had it sitting in his front yard and I came by at the right time with the tow truck... The county was telling him he had to get rid of it or they'd do it for him and charge him...

I was also able to get a 1987 Turbo II for $200 a few years ago... Deer damage to the passenger fender and leaky injectors... Guy offered the original exhaust (Had a custom straight pipe.) and factory stereo for another $50... Factory stereo was broken and the exhaust was rusted out, so I just scrapped all that and rolled the entire cost together... Turbo II for $250... Ran rich due to the bad injectors, but other than, was nice when buffed up and the fender replaced.

You just gotta wait for a deal.

In a place where cars turn to dust from road salt, you may have a longer wait on your hands. Plan on scouring the Internet, printed classified ads, and this forum for a good six months to a year if you're looking to score a great deal that's fairly nearby.

ON U.S. car

Buying an old car from the states is no big deal- because the car is 15yrs old or older, you only need to send a copy to US customs to clear it- once in Canada, you pay on the price of car- don't tell'em it has air or you will be taxed for it, but pretty easy to do- i bought a 1990 vert. for 1280.00 on ebay and brought it back to Ontario- I would shop for one there- cheaper and no salt...in some places, but some states are north of me!
