start with large grain ~400 grit sand paper and start going at it .. then keep reducing grit size and work your way up to 1600

this will take quite a while

Might want to look into getting some polish, too.

www.eastwood.com sells kits, that's where I got mine. And I used it to do my manifolds. Here is an idea of how they came out:

I only sanded to around 360 grit, though. 600+ would get you much more luster/shine, I'm sure.

Are you talking about just the compressor? The wheel?, the turbine or housing?

If the turbo is not shiny (and therefor rough on the surface) wouldn't it dissipate heat better? Or would it not really be enough to make a difference, or would it not matter anyway?

polishing is a PITA. I say either have someone else do it, or dont worry about it. If you do decide to, use absolutely no lower than 220, I learned that the hard way (lovely scratches that are deep and will require more sanding). It just takes time, and some areas are going to be difficult to reach. Other than that, its the same as polishing anything aluminum.

And make sure you do it in an easily cleaned area and wear olf clothes, because aluminum dust is a PITA to clean up.

1) Make sure you have ALOT of time on your hands, if you not don't even attempt it
2) Sand that aluminum smoother than a baby's ***
3) Wet sand to remove the finer scratches out
4) Run it under the buffing wheel until it is really shiney
5) Scrub off all excess polish compound with soap and warm or hot water
6) Dry it off with dry towel after washing
Thats what I did. Good Luck with the 7!
