Arrow How to physically Identify s4 from s5 Stationary Gears?

Something that I haven't thought about 'til now.

I was having a discussion with a fellow forum member and he suggested the s5 Stationary Gears are NOT hardened wheras I said they were. Any confirmation on this?

from my understanding yes they are hardend and the way to tell them apart is that below the gear their is a ring and if that ring is dull in color it is hardend and if it is shiney it is not.

they are hardend, ive seen an SAE document saying so

Do s5 NA/TII's have the same part number for the Stationary Gears? I am pretty sure they do...

I'm having trouble opening your link...any other physically distinguishable differences b'n the s4/s5 Stationary Gears?

I can't really tell If It's dull or shiny...If any, It appears dull.

Ted, I told you about the flop job I received...The Stationary Gear Bearings were fused to the E-Shaft. We had to use a blow torch, blow hammer and 3 chisels to free the E-Shaft out of the assembly. Also this attributed to the builder. Please do not ask for pics of the graphic nature I was exposed to...I'm slowly recovering.

Although I trust my source that provided me the Gears, I'm curious to know.
