Arrow How to physically Identify s4 from s5 Stationary Gears?

Something that I haven't thought about 'til now.

I was having a discussion with a fellow forum member and he suggested the s5 Stationary Gears are NOT hardened wheras I said they were. Any confirmation on this?

from my understanding yes they are hardend and the way to tell them apart is that below the gear their is a ring and if that ring is dull in color it is hardend and if it is shiney it is not.

Thanks for the (multiple) replies.

Do s5 NA/TII's have the same part number for the Stationary Gears? I am pretty sure they do...

I'm having trouble opening your link...any other physically distinguishable differences b'n the s4/s5 Stationary Gears?

I can't really tell If It's dull or shiny...If any, It appears dull.

No easy way to tell.
It's a good idea to tag the parts...

Ted, I told you about the flop job I received...The Stationary Gear Bearings were fused to the E-Shaft. We had to use a blow torch, blow hammer and 3 chisels to free the E-Shaft out of the assembly. Also this attributed to the builder. Please do not ask for pics of the graphic nature I was exposed to...I'm slowly recovering.

Although I trust my source that provided me the Gears, I'm curious to know.

Okay, one pic for you.
