How much would it save

If I were to swap my 87 T2 engine, tranny, and rear diff into an 86 base model with no sunroof. The T2 is fully loaded with sunroof and such. The reason I ask is I was rear ended and the unibody is damaged so I was thinking I swap everything over to a base model or gxl. Whats the difference between weight in the two??

Go for a GXL and then strip it to save weight, you'll want the 5 lug. Or if you can get ahold of a base easier then swap over your spindles and stuff.

actually at this point I could have access to either one. There is a blown GXL asking 500 and a base thats cheaper. It would be more work though to swap the spindles and such. Maybe Ill go for the GXL.
