How can I get rid of ECU error code #2?
Hi everybody,
I just finished swapping a turbo engine and drive train into my vert, but am having a some wiring issues. I made an ecu code checker and it's spitting out error code #2. From what I understand this means that the ecu is not recieving a signal from the Air flow meter. I followed the procedure outlined in the FSM for troubleshooting error code #2 and everything checked out until the part where it said to check for continuity between the AFM and ECU. I tried using a multi-tester to check the resistance between the terminals on the AFM plug and the corresponding ECU plug terminals but kept coming up with infinity. I would have taken this to mean that there was a break in the harness exept that I got the same reading(infinity) when I checked the same terminals on the old N/A harness that I know is good. The only thing I am missing is the Knock Module, is it possible that not having the knock module pluged in is causing the discontinuity between the AFM and the ECU? If so, then why wouldn't I be able to get a reading from the N/A harness? I was considering stripping down the harness and inspecting the wires, but I wanted to see if any of you had any sugesstions before I go through all the trouble of removing the harness and unwrapping it. If any of you have had any experience with error code #2 I would appreciate it if you could tell me how you fixed yours. I would also like it if someone could detail the ECU error code clearing procedure for me as I could not locate it in the FSM. Any other suggestions or ideas would be appreciated as well. Thanks for your help in advance.

I can't account for the series five emissions harness, but the series four should have rung out from the afm plug to the ECU plug since it's a straight shot from end to end. Meter problem???? Maybe not counting the pins in the right order?
On the series four, the brown/white wire in the afm plug should go straight to the pin 2A on the ECU plug.
The brown/white wire in the afm plug should be the middle socket on that plug. On the ECU plug, the middle plug of the ECU, the brown/white wire is , when looking from the wire side of the plug, on the top row, far right.
The knock sensor shouldn't be a player on the series four harness, and probably not a player on the series five either.

The brown and white wire you are talking about is what the FSM calls Voltage ref(Vref). I measured the voltage on that wire and it checked out ok at 5.0 volts. It was the other wires on the AFM plug that I couldn't get a reading from. I also measured the resistance between all of the terminals on the AFM and they all checked out too.
I still haven't figured out how to clear the error codes either. Some body told be to remove the battery for 1 min then press the brake 5 times. Is that corret? Should the key be in the on position? Come on rotary gods help me out here.

I have three AFM's and I know that two of them are good for sure. I'm pretty sure the third is good too since ALL the resisitances checked out. Now that I'm sure of how to clear the ECU error codes I'll try swaping them and seeing if the code goes away. I really doubt that it will though. Thanks for the clarification on the the ecu error code clearing procedure.
P.S. I just figured out that the view of the ecu plugs in the FSM are from the back of the plug not the front. I'll check for continuity again and get back at you guys.

The car won't start. Well actually it does start but it shuts off after about 2 seconds. It acts like it has a huge vacum leak but I'm sure it doesn't. I think the car will start once I get rid of the error code. I'm pretty sure that my problem has something to do with the wiring harness. I looked pretty beat up when i got it. That's what I get for buying the harnes off ebay.
