....nailed it. Not even very many aftermarket setups come close to their cool-factor...especially black or with black spokes and polished/grey rims...

Yea seriously buy it. Even if you don't have the cash at the moment to get it running, a good body is priceless in my book. For me though, engine work is ******* fun, and finding one that runs shitty or doesn't work at all is just a totall challenge, and not a let down.

No money things to do would be like taking the engine out, cleaning up the interrior, degreasing the bay, re-wrapping the harness. It will keep you busy until you DO have money for a rebuild or new engine.
Check out www.jdmsource.ca they have jspec TII engines for a grand cndn, wich runs and is cheaper than a rebuild.

I am a piston guy. But I would love to tear into a rotary and rebuid it. I think it would be FUN! So this would be a good one to rebuild i guess! Thanks guys! I really appreciate the help!

DEFINITELY worth it. That car with a good engine and cleaned up, is worth 6 grand on a good day. It even has the stock friggen lip!

IF you dont want it, and it's on the east coast, tell me where it is...

I can't believe you guys. I just bought a '91 TII for $300. I'm really curious about why the wheels might be worth something, seeing as I have them. Oh, by the way, it runs. I wanted the goodies for my '89 GTU, but, if it is worth alot, start talking.

The wheels really arent worth much, between 150 and 250 depending on condition and whether or not they have tires that are any good.

There isnt all that much that's super special about the 89-91 turbo cars, just they didnt make many of them at all...we all know that 89-91's are slightly nicer than the much more common 86-88 cars, yet most everyone wants the turbo version when theyre in the market to buy, so the obvious choice is the 89-91 turbo...yet those are the ones they made the fewest of. There are probably less 89-91 turbos than there are FD's on the road today. IT isn't, nor will it ever be, a collectors car of any sort, but it does have a value within the community. It is, so to speak, the holy grail of the 2nd generation models.

In good running condition, with all original equipment (front lip, side skirts, wheels, etc.), with good interior and body, they go for $4500-7000. Obviously, a screwed up, non running, rough example is still only worth a few hundred or a grand. The car pictured most likely only needs an engine and about a day's worth of cleaning and tlc, so it was obviously worth what he stated.

No, why would it be? You will NEVER seen an FC on barret jackson, I can assure you. Sure, the enthusiast market assigns the cars a value somewhat higher than book, but that doesnt mean that a mint s5 turbo with 2k miles is going to bring 50k anytime soon...it just isnt going to happen. It's a 15 year old japanese sportscar that was mass produced.

The TII body looks like hell; even the sunroof is rusting. The '89 GTU is like an Arizona car. I need to rebuild and swap. With Goodies. Its why I'm on thi site.

Well, Im back... 16 hour trip, and 950 miles later. The car is in pretty good shape. It has a couple really small dings on the sides but nothing bad at all. The interior is really sharp looking. One bad thing is the brake master cylinder died from the car sitting soo long... oh well.

I asked the guy what exactly happened to the engine and he said that he was turning onto a freeway and the car just died. He started it back up and it make the "Rotary Death Shake??" whatever the hell that is. He said its a commenly known sympton when an apex seal goes out. He said that the last time he tried to start it, it would start but the engine shook around really bad and he said it smoked like hell.

The car is still sitting on the Uhaul trailer in front of my house. Im going to get it off the trailer tomorrow and mess with it tomorrow evening to see what happens.

Has anyone hear heard of the "rotary death shake"? lol

Ohyeah, one other thing. The RX7 and Mazda emblems on the back of the car are black, just like the paint. Are they suppose to be that way, or have they been painted to match the car? Thanks

That means it has a blown engine. When you blow apex seals you lose compression, meaning the engine is only running on half it's displacement...making it idle poorly or not at all, and vibrate badly. Like a 6 cylinder running on 3.

Plan for the rebuild.
