Question How Much For A Rebuild?

Ok, I am confused! I may need to have a rebuild on my 1988 TII very soon now. I have been given MANY price quotes and they are all about the same. They are all around $2,500! My first quote, from the Mazda dealership here in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was around $3,000! So my question is good and all-knowing people, how much SHOULD I expect to pay for a complete, quality rebuild, including an average on the labor??? NO, my engine SEEMS fine right now, but from what I have been told/read is that my motor will act just FINE for awhile and then one day just STOP or won't start at all! I have seen some amazingly low prices for rebuilds on this board. Some are saying it would only cost around $1,000! No, I'm not rich but compared to Mazda's price quote THAT IS a bargin! So thanks for any help you can give me and if there ARE any mechanics out there that live in my area PLEASE contact me via email at wizardwayne@earthlink.net!

Prices on a complete "seal kit" are about $1000 - you'll need one kit.
Prices on a complete "gasket kit" are about $300 - you'll need one kit.
Labor prices start at $500 and average about $1000.

It seems to be consistent with what you're being quoted.
Most of your "high volume" rotary engine rebuilders will charge you at least $2,000 and go up from there.
