How much to pay

My friend got into a wreck in his 91' GXL, and instead of spending the $2K+ on fixing it, he decided to get another series 5 with a blown engine, and swap them out. Well, he found a 90' GTU with 120K on the chassis, and he doesn't know how much he should pay.

What should he expect for a 90' GTU in sound exterior condition? Also, should he take anything else over in the swap? Seats? Etc.

I take it your friend would like to spend under 2K since that how much the repairs would cost otherwise. Well, a 1990 GTU w/ a good body and bad motor should go for $1500 at the very LEAST! The GTU was a good package and if its just the motor thats bad...1500 is more then a fair price. As far as what to swap. If the interior in the GTU that he gets isn't bad, I wouldn't really waste time dealing w/ swapping out the seats, dash, carpet, etc...unless the color was better or something. With the motor, he should take the '91 motor out as a whole, leaving all manifolds, lines, etc attached which will make for a really simple swap out. Everything else should connect since both cars are NA. He can then take extra stuff left from the other car like tranny, interior(if he doesnt swap it), wing, etc and sell it to either pay off the car or add performance stuff to it. Thats my opinion on this situation...

I wouldn't pay more than US$500 for just a rolling chassis with bad/no engine.

A GTU rolling chaiis should go for $1k. If in PERFECT shape. I personally would not spend more than $800, unless it was a really good deal.

Yes, the chassis is in perfect shape, w/ a RB cat-back on it. That comes with it.
