How much have you spent?
I've come up with a, pretty much exact, total amount on how much I have spent on my TII swap/build-up. I was wondering... are any of you guys seeing massive amounts of cash being poured into your FC's? I mean I know automobiles are not a cheap hobby, but is anyone spending a little too much they think? I guess I am just dumbfounded at the amount I have spent so far on the car, parts, engine, etc...
|
Well so far, just doing my clutch swap Im at approx. $1400. thats for flywheel, clutch, all bearings, new hoses and mounts and this and that. Other than that my car is stock. Installed my stereo a few months ago and bought an HKS BOV and strut bar. So total Ive dropped about $2500 on my car in the last 6 months. Still runs and looks like shit :asian:
|
My TII swap so far is probably around the 3k mark. And I got my tranny, engine, clutch, pp, flywheel (all performance/aftermarket) and a full exhaust system for $1250. I guess the major addition was the Haltech and other electronics that go with it... :doh:
And things like gaskets and shit like that add up relatively quickly... turbo -> DP gasket from Malloy is $53. Intake gaskets came out to around $60 (all)... That's almost $110 right there... fuel pump, throttle cable...etc. etc. James |
ill be close to 10K if not over.....450WHP here i come!
|
after new shocks today, not including maintenance. around 2,700 ish
|
Geez...Over $16K and it still needs a paint job!!!!!
|
I'm going to be around the 15k mark, including paint.
|
Honestly...I feel like I own Audrey from "Little Shop of Horrors". Instead of people my Audrey wants to be fed money. and my figure doesn't include the 3 motors I've had in the last 6 years. It does however, include the cost of the car.
|
cost list:
3,700 550 ---exhaust 320---rad 280--head unit 190--1 12" AND 2 10" SUBS 110--AMP 50--thermostat, rad hoses, gasket 60--steering wheel 10--spark plugs 75--battery 120--intake ~100--clutch master cylinder =1865 with car =5565 as you can see my car is bone stock, and iver spent over half of what my car is worth. i have a problem. oh and i was planning on spending another 4k on mods to get ready for my TII swap lol. |
$4600-$5000 not including the price of the car, $6000 including the price of the car and I still need bodywork/paint and have a few other mods I plan on doing
My car is n/a who would of thought that lol, I'm happy with it though. I think n/a is a good starting point for your first rx7. |

lol...well here's my list:
1987 TII - $2000 Wolf 3D Standalone- $1300 13B-RE- $1600 3rd Gen rotor Housings- $1100 Engine Gaskets & Seals- $1200 Clutch & Flywheel - $800 Interior - $500 TO4S/ HKS Manifold - $1800 intercooler/Wastegate/BOV- $800 Mazdaspeed MS-01 wheels - $1200 Custom Turbo-back exhaust - so far $600 in materials ....There's more just the little things but they add up, but I should be *hopefully* around 400whp area with $10k+. Overall rotary+boost= untreatable addiction so I spend to get my dose. |
I never kept count. Good thing too, cause I'm sure I would kill over if I saw that total. I'm sure it's upwards of 15k or so. Should be hitting hte 500rwhp when done.
|
ok here is my list and I just started lol
86' N/a -- 1000.00 tune up -- 70.00 electric fan -- 45.00 mufflers -- 70.00 RB exhaust -- 715.00 (btw just bought yesterday WOO WOO) Racing seats with steering wheel -- 300.00 Headlight harness -- 25.00 S5 aero mirrors (with paint job) -- 75.00 current rb dp and pre silencer -- 250.00 (sold now but still has been bought and still on car) SAFC -- 55.00 (awaiting arrival) current grand total 2605.00 and rising wow I would have never thought I had that much into this car.. and I still need to get wheel and tires, suspension, radiator, brakes etc LOL |
About $6,000.00 and counting. That ammount includes labor but not the car. I paid $4400 for the turbo II.
|
I quit counting years ago...
:( |
including my cars ive spent roughly 7k maybe. ive had 3 7s.
|
$600 so far on the S5 N/A, that was just the car. Now the fun begins... And by fun, I mean rebuild. :fawk:
|
over 3 Grand, and thats just to get it going again :)
|
1600 = car
1400 = rebuild 150 = transmission 75 = clutch 500 = miscellaneous parts/fluids/etc And I'm sure I'm missing a lot. |
5 rx7's and about 20k. Ouch. I just try not to think about it. Maybe i sub-consciously painted the bottom half green because it's a money pit. LOL. 12-15k went in to my current one and the interior still looks like shit. Probably gonna be 25k by the time everything is done. Should be able to sell it for at least 8k later. LOL. That's the part that hurts the most.

450 = 87 TII
1000 = s5 13BT 500 = RB Full Exh 260 = CSF Rad w/ hoses 800 = MicroTech LT8-s 200 = ACT Streetlite flywheel 580 = SSR Reverse Mesh 16x7F 16x8R 75 = Small Trust FMIC 350 = Gaskets, o-rings, oil filter, and misc engine parts List is still growing. |

|
I'd say about $11,500
and I still am not running a turbo and my car is still 4 different colors ^_^ in a week I am gonna pickup 4 new tires, new wheel bearings, and new ball joints. :jump: |
you think about it though....you spend 10K or 15 and can have a pretty damn nice/FAST car and be able to keep up to some or even burn high end cars that cost upwards of 50K...all in all, its well worth it IMO!

THe cheastest thing I have money in right now is the convertible and it comes to 3k+- a few dollars, this was mostly interior pieces new top ect. To bad I have not had a chance to get it installed yt, mainly because I am still prepping the car for paint.
With all of my cars(just rx7s, and ive owned 13) i would say close to 60k, but this also includes the cost of the cars in the price, and I owned 2 fds that i sold and that was the bulk of the money. |
god i dont even want to think about how much i spend on my car. but at least its fast, loud and has badass shoes.
|

|
'86 NA... $1400
Used tranny...$250 Brand New Tranny rebuild with chryo'd gears...$2401 Clutch... $250 Fidanza Flywheel... ~$400 Intake system... $80 Exhaust from header back Cats eliminated... $150 Garrett GT35R turbo... $300 (not on car yet) Dual Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump set up... $200 (not on car yet) 850cc and 1600cc injectors... $75 each (also not on car yet) Total so far $5481 |
Including or excluding the tools to do all the work? Including them, probably $4000 or so, excluding them probably about $3000... and it's still at least a month away from being drivable. Though thankfully I think I only need $100 or so more in the way of parts to have it actually running, and then whatever it costs to build the sub box and the wiring for the stereo. Not much compared to some, but then I am for the time being just getting it running and not doing much in the way of performance upgrades (that will come next winter).
|
my car = 1800
exhaust = free intake = made it minor interior pieces = free or made it stereo = 120 and free That's right, I'm a cheapass. As soon as I get something else to drive I'll be dropping around 20k into my 20bt swap. Can't wait to feel that GT42 spool up. |
I stopped counting pretty much after I spent 5k on the car itself. I also stopped keeping a list of mods....
But I know im over 20k total. Track cars are expensive. They tend to eat brakes and tires very quckly. ;) 91 Turbo |
Way too friggen much...
|
ive spend ~12k on a $500 car lol
|
Alright, thanks for all the responses! It made me feel better seeing that some people said $6K-$16K. I am at like $8K so far. I have bought quite a few new/reliable parts plus mods... so that may be why I have spent more than I thought.
|
Car - $2100
Donor turbo car - $1700 Rebuild - $1700 Clutch - $300 Other shit - $500 So $6300 so far, and I still haven't finished it. Yippee! |
:) Enough, so that i dont even have to label the file in the file cabinet....
|
Paging Iceblue... I think his full restore approached the 50k mark...

Well for one I could be driving an RX8 paid for easily for the amount I put in my car (And still have cash left over) and it never ends. Its crazy. I try not to even look at it and then one day all of a sudden bam a few more bills goes into it. I tried when I smashed my gxl like 7 years ago to walk away from rx7's. I ended up getting my 10th AE.
I will not even post my amount for shame! |
88 vert, paid 5K for the car 4 years ago, Motor rebuilt: with Street Port, Turbo Housings for around 4 K
Bonez intake, Racing Beat Headers, Bonez High flow catcon, no name cat back. about 1K Racing Beat vert springs, KYB AGX shocks, Suspension Techniques sway bars, Energy suspension bushings, Racing Beat steering toe eliminators, Mazdatrix on-car camber adjuster, About 1200$ Russell SS brake lines, new rotors, rebuit calipers and new pads about 450$ All in Canadian $$$ so far about 12K Next Audio and bodywork and paintjob. so I should end up around 15 grand.
