How much do you think I could get for my car?
I am going to be selling my 87 turbo II soon, and I'm wondering how much you think i could get for it. like i said, its and 87, with 147,000 original miles on engine and turbo. i know its a lot, but it runs perfectly, and still has lots of power.
power mods:
*cat back exaust (custom with magnaflow mufflers)
*high-flow cat
*gutted pre-cat
*hks intake
*FCD (DIY, which works perfectly)
exterior mods:
*it's black (doors have some dings, and passenger door is fading a little bit), but very clean
*89 gtu wing
*89+ tail lights
*16 inch american racing rims (six spoke with black inlay)
interior mods:
*Greddy turbo timer (this was the first mod I got when i bought it almost 6 years ago)
*autometer boost guage
*grant GT carbon fiber look steering wheel
*custom carbon fiber look interior pieces
*kenwood CD player
*custom race pedals (the RAZO looking ones)
*Note: the logicon doesn't really work anymore. can't select any vent buttons, and the heat/cold slider barely works. the A/C could also use a charge.
Problems:
*the shocks are pretty much shot and need to be replaced
*the tires are very low on tread as well, but i figure that could be good cause someone may just want to put 17's on it.
*the only thing wrong with the way it runs is that it has a hot start problem. I have to give it a little gas to start it after driving somewhere, but almost always starts right up.
*it has a tiny oil leak, and i don't know where its coming from
*the exaust has a somewhat strong smell, partially i think do to the fact that i have it running rich because of the extra boost. (didn't want it to lean out)
Another Note:
*the car has a newly rebuilt tranny, also new rear differential
I always took very good care of this car. It is my baby. changed the oil religeously(sp?), never been raced at the track, except for the occasional street race. I've actually only taken it to redline a few times.
Reason for selling, I just want something new to work on. I don't really feel like putting any more money into this car.
sorry so long. but please, tell me what you think. thank you very much.

147K and your running higher than stock boost?
I'd say you're selling a time bomb, especially if it's starting to have hot start issues. I'd figure full retail minus the cost of an engine repalcement.
If you expect more than that, you should have a dealer do a compression test. Written proof that a high milage motor is still making good compression would be your best selling point.

I say it depends on how moral you are. There are plenty of people who don't realize that a rebuid is emmienant. Thus they are willing to buy the car. I've seen numerous cases where a car with similar millage to yours will fetch the same as a car with a new or rebuilt engine or even substantially lower miles.

Yeah - and all the immoral people work for places like "Atlanta Fine Cars." They've got 12 FBs and 8 FCs out back that "run" - but with very little compression. They put their own apex seals in but don't do a very good job. $6500 for a hack job rebuild - no thanks.
If you did it right and bought the TII for $1800 dealer and sold it for $6500 with $600 worth of upgrades - you can see why the dealerships love rx-7s.

Price for you car.
Hmm.. well it's an 87 TII so it's not as rare as the later generations. As for the mods, welll you can't really expect serious buyers to pay for your dream.. although there are some people out there that are somehow willing.
You also have to look at other things. Number of owners, body condition, any rust?, VIN check.
Also have you kept the stock components in case someone wants to restore parts of it?
If you're selling it as is, you probably won't get as much for it. Perhaps slightly more than book if you're lucky.
Just my 2 cents.
Good luck,
-Forseti.

Thanks. No, it doesn't have any rust at all, and no cracks in the dash or anything like that. It's very clean. The compression check is a good idea. Maybe I'll look into that just so I have it.
