how much is this 10th AE worth?

What kind of condition would you expect a 10AE to be in if it has a blown motor and the seller wants $2500 for it?

Thanks,

Tom

Pretty dang good. I dont think any rx7 is worth 2500 with a blown motor, 10AE or not. Id expect the leather seats to be in really good condition and the paint to be nice, with no chipping (10ae white chips really bad). Personally I wouldnt pay that for a blown motor car.

if it's in great shape overall (fantastic inside AND out) and reasonably low miles.. $2500 is OK.

if it's not in that great of shape inside or out.. $2500 is too much.

but considering how cheaply you can get an engine for these days, it's up to you...

I'd pay $2500 for a blown motor 10AE with a perfect body and a good interior in a heartbeat.

He said there is normal 10AE paint chipping in some places. I still haven't seen the interior yet, but if its pretty much perfect should I offer $2000?

Consider the fact that for a rebuild it'll cost you $3000+ with parts and labor if you can't do the work yourself. I don't know about you, but with that money, S5 T2 would be a better choice. AE or not, I wouldn't spend that much on a S4.

No FC is worth more than $1200 with a blown motor, no matter how good the interior or exterior is.

And if the miles are high (above 100K) not worth more than $1000.

I payed $1750 for my AE, with a blown rear rotor, 133k on the body, **** poor paint, and horrible shape seats.

But; everything on the interior besides the seats was immaculate, and the body was in perfect shape, no ding, dents etc. Everything electrical worked and it was bone stock with good tires & brakes, all prior service records.

Also, minus any mods... and doing all the work yourself you can easily get the motor in tip top shape for ~$1500.00 ..... $7k is a B.S. figure or a lot of heavy mods.

A 10AE in Excellent condition is worth about $4,200. If you subtract about $2,200 for a rebuild (assuming the turbo is still OK), then you are down to $2,000 for a fair price. However, since the engine is currently blown, you can't tell if other parts are also bad, such as the suspension, AC, turbo, transmission, etc. Because you don't know if it's going to cost $2,200 to fix, or $7,000 to fix, I would agree with most of the other opinions that the car is only worth maybe $1,000.

Bringing into account the Evil helicopter pilot paranoia, one may believe that this car has lots of issues because one of the following:
1) The owner is not bright enough to realize that repairing the engine will allow the car to sell for more than the cost of repairing the engine. Therefore, it's likely that the owner is also not bright enough to take care of the car properly.
2) The owner doesn't have the money for a rebuild. Once again, a broke owner has probably skimped on other maintenance issues.
3) The owner knows that there are lots of problems with the car, and is using the blown engine to help cover up the problems.

Now it's also possible that the blown engine is the only major problem, and the owner just wants to get rid of the car, in which case you should be able to get it for $800-1,000.

I hear ya, i have over $10,000 invested in mine now, but It only cost me ~$1,500 to get the motor up and running. That included full rebuild kit, upgraded OPR, upgraded Oil pump, and large street port, new water pump. All the rest of my extra's such as turbo and such don't count as "getting it running" those were all upgrades. Then again i did Everything myself, the rebuild and the streetport included.

But as with anything, its only worth what its worth to you. Is my car worth over $10,000 with all I have done to it. Nope. But it makes me very happy, not all things in life are a investment... some things are just for pleasure. I have a *** load of money into my motorcycle & jetski also... but i don't mind they make me happy and my pln is to use my toys not resaell them to make a profit.

Some people pay out the wazoo for diamonds and gold. You could not get me to spend one red damn cent on either, I can think of nothing in life that is a bigger waste of money than jewlery ... but hey, it's not my thing but it might be someone else.. to each there own.

FWIW, I told the thread originator over AIM that the guy was asking too much.

Normal Turbo seats didn't have moveable headrests.

All GXL and Verts had moveable headrests.

If it helps you any I payd $600 for the GTU with a blown motor. body was in good condition one presure dent on the rear piller one dent in rear and a few door dings. interior was in ok shape. no consol no diminister vents dirty *** carpet some scraches on the aging plastic bins and crumbled hatch lock cover from the hot sun and rusted sunroof retractor cable.

So givin that I would pay between 900 and 1300 for a 10thAE if in perfect condition.
