How to: Mounting the hatch washer tank in the engine bay

For those of you who had to ditch your washer reservoir for intercooler pipes there is a solution. Chances are you are also like me and have cruise control that is meant for stock power levels. Not so useful with 2 to 3 times the stock horse power. Ditch that crap and you can gain some useful under hood space.

Using the cruise control mounting location I made up a simple L bracket to hold the rear hatch washer tank. I also took the washer fluid level sensor and put in into the small tank.

The sensor is mounted by tracing out the same size circle that was in the original tank and using a dremel or similar cut out the hole.

Wire up the pump using the connector from the hatch. Green is Positive on the hatch wire and blue with red tracer is the positive for the original washer pump. You'll need to extend the wires from the pass side wheel wheel to reach the new location.

Looks good! That's a creative use of the rear bottle. How well does the pump pressurize the larger system?

don't know yet, but testing it in the sink it sprayed water pretty darn good. I figure something is better than nothing. Hopefully I can get it all wired in tonight and let you know.

If you're making 2 to 3 times the stock power, chances are you don't have the charcoal canister

There is still some room there. You could move it over.

95% of the crap on the engine is optional equipment. Charcoal canisters are to reduce fuel vapor smells. I have my tank vented under the back side of the car and I never smell fuel.

I don't think the tank will fit in the 2nd cruise control hole due to the inner fender coming up high in that area. Where it's at now puts the lid level with the fender lip.

Atron:

I use the rain-x method on my chevelle. No room for washer tanks or even wipers with a 4" cowl. But the 345 drag radials keep me off the streets in the rain anyway.

Update: I finally tried the washer tank. At first only the passenger side worked well. Then I noticed the driver side was clogged up with wax or sediment (car hasn't been driven in the rain in a loooong time). Once I cleared it out with a needle it was back in the game. It sprays just as good if not better now.

Very nice. I've been meaning to do the same, I removed my washer tank when I installed my brake ducts, but couldn't find the rear tank until the other day, it had been removed back when I removed my nonfunctional rear wiper.

I find that no matter how careful I am, every time I wax the car I manage to clog the spray nozzles.
