Rebuilt injectors worked for meeeeee!

 

Just wanted to close this real quick. Wasn't flooded. Engine fuse seems to have an intermittent contact problem. (contacts in the fuse box are a lightly to far apart ). Gonna work on gently pushing them back together but in the mean time I can start it but shoving in a small ball of electrical tape so that there is pressure on the side of the fuse.

So how to unflood/prevent stealing of my car? Wiggle the engine fuse ....

 

Also had flooding issue, only happened once in ten years before I replaced the fuel pulsation damper. to get it running again I pulled the EGI fuse cranked it over a few times, put it back in and it fired up.

 

thiis has been a geat thread so far. i agrre with the theory of treating the problem instead of the symptom. finding the root of a flooding problem is very important

 

install MSD ... before turning your carr off, let the car sit for 30 sec. rev the the motor to 3 and keep it there will i turned the ignition switch to off ... next time you start your car no flooding

 

i havent seen this thread in while ...i hope it has helped some of you...i heard the rtec 2.1 has a program in it to help flooding ...any one have it

 

Hey, ive got a 1987 non turbo rx7 and ive had some flooding problems. ive takin the fuel pump fuse out and tried starting it with the clutch and gas all the way down. Blew some smoke out the exaust and put the fuse back in and the car started. I had more problems not starting that night and just left it alone, in the morning it started right up and i drove it to a friends house and it didnt start back up. we took the fuse out and tried starting the engine, while the had the clutch and gas down cranking the car i put the fuse back in and it started and my tachometer doesnt work now. the car's not starting again so what do i do?

 

ok so from what i figured theres nothing wrong with my car i just have to let it idle for about 1 min before i turn it off and the engine wont flood.

 

I know how to run the toggle switch to kill the fuel pump at start up, but which wire do you cut I was told that it is the wire that is black with a white strip somewhere between the steering wheel and the radio. I have a 1987 TII. So anyway it is a five wire plug I cut the wire in the center, but it didn't work do I have to do the unflood precedure for it to work or did I cut the wrong wire. If I did it wrong can anyone derect me in the right way please it would be greatly appreciated

To deflood your series five car, all you have to do is hold the pedal to the floor and hold the key to Start. The ECU will see the pedal to the floor (TPS) and see the START signal from the ignition switch. It will then cut fuel injection as long as the TPS sees the pedal to the floor. Spark will remain to burn off the excess fuel.

On a series five you don't have to pull any fuses or make any switch to cut fuel.

 

rx8s are still having flooding issues...if they ever come out with another rx7 they better fix that issue first

 

while looking up for solution for my unknown problem i came across this long thread and i start to wonder about dose getting a new fuel pump and injector from dealer and replace whatever i have on the car right now(larger unknow cc injector + rewired FD fuel pump done by previous owner, and dosen't have safc and fpr installed yet), will it help lower the flooding chance?...

or i should say... will it cost more to get a new OEM fuel pump + injectors from dealer (if they still has it) than cleaning up/rebuild the injector and get a fuel managment of some sort.

 

i tried the whole deflooding process on my car (86 GXL) yesterday to no avail, so i gave up (for now). i pulled the egi fuse, held down the clutch and throttle, put the fuse back in, and nothing. it turns over but doesnt actualy start. it sounds like it wants to but just wont get there. white smoke comes out the exhaust when i try.
also, the day before i hosed down the entire engine bay while it was still warm (cleaning), could that have anything to do with it?

 

I hate to be one more guy who bumps this thread, but I have to ask.

Can anyone take a picture of the wire to cut the fuel cut off switch into? or very detailed explanation of where it is?

I have read all of the information in this thread and know what I should be looking for but I have not been able to find it. I am looking under the dash to the right side of the steering column (LHD).

Thanks for the photo man. So you everyone cuts the middle wire, why not cut the fuel pump switch wire instead?

 

There is no fuel pump switch unless you install one. There is no stock fuel pump switch.

I know, I was referring to the wire in the picture you posted.

Ok I had/have the same problem and this is what I did and it is doing good. I don't know if all rx7 has it but I have like a switch that you can just pull down and you will disconnect the fuel pump. What I do is when your done driving don't turn of the car what you do is turn the witch down that disconnects the fuel pomp and then the car will turn of itself. when it is turned of then you can turn the key to off and when you want to start the car put the switch for the fuel pump back up like connecting it and then put your feet on gas but just a little and then try turning the car on. Nothing else worked for me but this did it. Maybe you will have to get used to how much gas you have to put. But remember to turn of the car with the fuel pomp switch and not the car key itself.
