Every day I browse for aftermarket parts I wish I could make my own. Fiberglass fabrication, welding and painting skills would change my life lol. I'm very impressed with your effort but if you want more function-over-form check out the design of the ram-air intake from AUTO EXE. Corksport has it and some good pictures for reference.

Here's the one I'm making. Your thread got me thinking.

I will be making it out of Carbon Fiber since I have a black FC.

I have bent the metal in but have yet to seal the sides and make the mold nice and smooth.

BTW that oval like shape I put on there is where the actual hole is on the headlight frame so that's where the air would go.

Looking good Digi7ech thats exactly how i started by drawing the outline of the hole in the headlight frame. To answer a couple of questions.. believe it or not i used super glue to fix the vent in place and a cold air box is also on the way. I got the ricer vent from a local performance car shop, it was inended for use as a bonnet vent on a vauxhall astra - lol. This is not my attempt at a true cold air setup, like i said i just thought it would be a good project to do. i cant remember the name of the guy who did this but he cut a hole out of the chassis and removed the washer bottle in order to run a tube for cold air, this is what i plan on doing next. The way i see it the headlight vent can only help get cold air to that area of the engine bay. The hole in the the vent is indeed very small - this is how it was when i bought it, before painting i will be making it as large as possible. I did think about putting it in the bonnet directly above the intake but didnt have the ***** to hack it up as this was my first attempt at any sort of bodywork. Black91n/a - any luck with your pics yet, i would like to see how the raised scoop looks.

hehe I already have to hack my hood for my TMIC to fit on the new engine so I don't really care.

I plan to make some heat extractor vents on the rear sides like the Amemiya FC2000 hood.

It's only temp anyways since I am going to get the FC3S CF TII hood.

Also... i havn't painted it yet but can get a hold of the right colour, i know its going to be very difficult to get it to match 14 year old paint though. I will post the dimensions of the inlet once i have measured it, both before its been cut and after.

That would be good to see, your going to have to post pics when you do it. i might be feeling a bit more confident in my bodywork skills by then

some comments on the air diagram that seems to be floating about..

first of all thats allowing a stock rx7 at high speeds.
it is very easy to direct air into the hood through a headlight given proper dynamics

second, at speed, air will probably be forced into the hood, that diagram seems very very accentuated. however, at slower speeds, air forces arent as excessive, making a cold air concept very feasible, which is when you need the cold air the most, right after idling at a light.

so i think im gonna go for it.
