How loud would a straight race pipe exhaust be?

If you didn't know b4, Makenzie71 offered homemade headers and i bought one that goes down to the y-pipe. Problem is i still have the stock cat back so atttaching the 2.5" header/midpipe to the stock (i dunno diameter) catback wouldnt be a great idea. I only have a month before my second year of college and i wont be working. I found out i needed to get new brake rotors all around (rear are worn past minimum and front are about to be). I only have enough dough for either the rotor set or a catback.....but Mak is offering his own catback, i'll be able to get his and rotors if i do buy his.

Here's his description of them: "if you want a flat out full exhaust from the ports back, I can have it done fairly soon. But my cat-back is going to be little more than a race pipe...as I described in the "Dismay" thread...no cats, no resonators, no mufflers. I will do what I can to make fitting mufflers to the tubing easy, but I do straight-pipes...loud."

its gonna be combined with this,

i know it'll be loud....i can keep my car under 3k during city driving but i'm wondering if i'll be pulled over all the time

Yeah my setup is so loud it will give you a headache. Just to see if you like it pull the manifold off and drive it around the block like that. Because it will be just as loud only at the back of the car. But trust me it will to loud for a daily driver

You won't even be able to start it without car alarms all over the neighbourhood going off. I'd say it's unstreetable for sure.

Is that the finished pipe? Eek! I can tell you BTW that I used to have one cat and the rest straight through on my 87 N/A. Loud? Heh...try it and find out. My RX sounded like a very very loud, deep version of a ricer at cruising speeds. At high RPM it sounded like an indy car. You could probably hear it for many miles. Its so obnoxiously loud that every single person within sight will look at you like "WTF IS THAT!?". I put on a full exhaust 3 days later. My recommendation is a big NO.

My car is set up with a custom header, Corksport midpipe and Corksport catback... in other words, all it really has is one pretty useless muffler. I'm suprised my ears don't bleed when I drive it, I can't hear sh*t with the windows rolled down. Even with the "silencer" insert in, it's still obnoxiously loud.

my turbo was ridiculously loud......the NA will be louder unless you get nice mufflers.....the drone at Hwy speeds will kill you, unless your passenger kills u first.

I have a stock header to cat bypass pipe to 2 cracked stock mufflers and I am just waiting for the cops to arrive. I try not to get her over 5k. Even babying it you can hear it coming around the block before you can see it.

I did see someone with straight pipes and it sounded like the loudest harley you can imagine. The benefit is he was flaming every gear with normal driving.

I was at my friends house (DarkKumiaAngle) helping him with his 7 and this civic across the street hand somehow managed to lose its exaust from the downpipe back. Man that sounded nice, but it was loud as hell

I used to get pulled over while driving WITH mufflers. Seriously, Bonez racepipe with an N1 catback on an N/A. I got pulled over several times while driving normally through town.

That setup will make you and your neighbors deaf.

I tried that setup when I first installed the header on my previous NA.

Even at idle the exhaust pulses are really sharp pops.
Picture a Huey comming at you, at near supersonic speed.
when you gun it, Harley riders a block away will scowl at you.
Even the most friendly cops will have to write you up.

The next day I put bombs on the tail pipes - still WAY TOO LOUD!

The following day I added the silencers you see in the pictures in my sig.

Another note about my experience...a straight piped rotary sounds nothing like a harley, and generally sounds like *** unless you are way up in the RPM's. It makes a loud ZZZZWWWIIIIIIIIIRRRRR that literally sounds like the biggest, wettest fart ever created. I had 1st graders laughing at the noise my car made. It only sounded cool when you wind it out and it sounds like a horde of Indycars are coming down the street.

when i was repairing my mid pipe/silencer i started the car for a second with just the header. unbeleivably loud. think of 5 bored-out straight-piped harleys idling in unison. and that was just at IDLE! i didnt even bother touching the gas cus i already new it was ridiculously too loud at only 750 rpm. straight pipes are only feasable on pure race cars, even then its questionable.

that's simular to the setup i have right now only my piping stops under the passenger seat, and all i have to say is that it's near earbleeding loud. can't listen to my stereo unless it's all the way up. Cops around here don't seem to mind it though.

Seriously? When I bought my car it had that setup, plus the flange on the racepipe that connected to the exhaust manifold was warped from heat. I never got pulled over for the sound.
And yeah, it will be unbelievably loud. Any car without a pre-silencer of some sort is totally unstreetable, even for the craziest, most hardcore people.

If you drive around all of the time with completely open n/a rotary exhaust you deserve to get tickets. They're ungodly loud and frankly it's not fair to other's to get woken up, etc. because you didn't want to sacrific 3hp for something that's mearly loud.

I ran a mindtrain header -> Bonez cat -> Corksport single and got 124 Db on my cheapie Radio Shack Db meter. (For reference, the legal limit is 95Db and anything over 100Db causes hearing damage.) It sounded really mean, but the noise was so horrendous it made me nauseous to drive. Save your ears! (and your license)

Remember when you're maternal guardian would simultaneously slap the palms of her hands at the sides of your head hurting your eardrums, and say, "Pay attention you little bastard?" Well, maybe not. This exhaust might be about that loud.

I use a RB header, RP DP, and CS Single on my vert and that SOB is LOUD!! You can probably hear the car coming for a good mile. It it very deep and throaty but it is WAY WAY loud. Even at idle it will shake the windows, at 6K cars behind you be wondering what broke on their car (seriously, had someone behind me ask once, if something was wrong with their car). You will set off car alarms on a daily basis.

Oh yeah, did I mention it was LOUD!! If anyone is in the Chicago area and wishes to hear it just let me know.

I have a bonez 2.5 race pipe with borla cat-backs. Its a straight through exhause but it is not loud at all. Its just real deep it might be because i have the stock header. Also the bonez pipe has a silencer on it. Do you think if I got a header it would be any louder.

Definitely louder (and sharper sounding) with a header. The stock exhaust manifold creates a lot of turbulence and mixes the exhaust pulses quite a bit more than a header does...
