How does a car rev itself to 8 grand? If your throttle cable was snagged up then just say that. And you should not be near 8 grand unless its an accident. If it just revs to 8 grand check the car out before you even use it. The throttle cable might be caught up on something in the engine bay. Maybe a small kitten

There is no way I could tell you something about your car for sure. You are there and we are here. We can only go by the info you provide. If it is running fine then be thankfull. How long was it past redline? I personally have mishifted a couple of times and it goes to 8300 or so and then comes back fast. Was it like this? or did it sit at 8 grand for a while?

Hell, I've had mine pegged in the redline for at least a good 20 seconds or better, if it's just a short time don't worry about it. However, I would check your throttle cable for binding when you hit WOT, or your spring assemblies on the throttle body, as something isn't functioning properly. If all of those turn up negative, remove your cruise control

Mine hit 7.5K for a few seconds the other day when I spaced out and didn't shift for some reason. Seemed to hit a rev limiter or something becuase it didn't go past that even thou I was WOT.
Anyway car is fine.
Our redline isn't the same as a piston engines.. We don't have vavles to smack the pistons into if we over rev. I think the redline more has to do with the ignition being able to fire fast enough and the balance of the parts in there.. but I could be wrong..

Yeah, with stock seals, it will chatter a little bit. Not sure what RPM's it does this though. Also our cars just don't make any more power if we go past redline.

My car did the rev limiter a few times one day.
My throttle cable was stuck, and so was the part of the throttle body. I had to shut my car off when this happened.
Then I sprayed down the TB connecter, throttle cable, and any other moving joint with lots of WD-40. It's been fine ever since.
What kind of lube should you use around the throttle body?

actually last summer i had that problem with my saab. my dad and i were driving and we were stopped at a red light and when we went to go the car would just shoot past redline and stayed there for for seconds and we had to shut it off. They we turned it back on and tried to drive it and it was really sluggish and acted like it wanted to stall and we pulled into a gas station. Then turned it off then on again and the idle shot back up past the redline and stayed and we had to shut it off.

I remember that video, it was great. It made me more comfortable purchasing a 7 knowing that some guy just floored it for 6 minutes. But the problems are beginning to mount....gah.

Yeah, it was like 10 minutes long... AND, they had the RADIATOR CAP OFF!
Who KNOWS how long it would have lasted with the cap on and full coolant in it!

it was...they were doing it bc it had only one rotor and the motor was shot. thats a great testament to durability!! there is a CRX video also floating around which is similar...it lasted about 20 min or so. I'm sure a TII is just as durable in the same "test" but you all have to understand that a motor revving in neutral is not the same as a car being driven at redline where the engine is under load.
