Yea, dont hit boost until you rebuild it. lol. J/k. This is the first Jspec engine that I have bought for a rex (that I am actually going to be able to put in) but I have purchased them for civics. I dont know how many B20s I have purchased and swapped into civics for some of the people in my area. Havent any problems w/ that. Just make sure that your motor has a startup warrenty and you get it installed w/i the allotted time.

My roommate, at the time, had a JDM S5 dropped into his car and it lasted from 1999 until 2005, unsure of the mileage. No major mods, dp and intake, boosted it, beat it, daily driver, back and forth to NJ and NC many times. One day it just stopped running. Not sure where the motor came from but KDR installed it.

I daily drove my Jspec last yeah put over 30k km's on it boosted 11psi, maybe 240whp on the dyno, and it's running great still, well other then the huge hesitation I have right now, all I have for mods are, light flywheel, ported tb, rtek 1.5 ecu, TID with HKS filter, and full 2.5" exhaust.

The personal one I bought (that got my vote on the poll) was bought from Tiger Japenese in Toronto - decent guys to deal with.
The motor had *compression* but never ran. Paid $950cdn for a block to rebuild. Upon teardown I noted that approx. 3/4" of the bottom of every iron had the chrome rusted away..........water had been sitting in the engine.
I say fawk the gamble...but I've heard stories both ways......just that far far more of them were - it ran for a month, or it started up and siezed solid, or it never ran at all as oppose to - still running strong.

Mine was in for over a year, even after I detonated it & cracked a seal.
It was still running well when I rebuilt the origonal motor.
It's sitting on a stand in case I screwed up the rebuild.

Anyways the motor is still sitting in my garage soaking in MMO, i dont expect that motor to last but maybe a month (if im lucky) but i cant afford a rebuild right now due to school. So 1800$ later all i have to say is " A lesson lived is a lesson learned" that and Jspecauto can go to hell (and suck my *****)
whats so good about jspec any way..

well i got the engine it looked like it was prolly abused, had a race clutch, and apeared as if a boost controllor was used previously....
wonderful clutch i might add tho!! haha,
compression was about 95 psi on each rotor very even, after i droped it in , so that was good enuf for me..
ran strong as ever for about 1 month... how ever a week before it blew it did develope a funky noise mostly when cold, sounded like an accessory noise alt maybe..., but i took all belts off and it still made the noise...
i drove alot of miles in that month and drove it quite hard...
but then it lost all compression on the front rotor.... this was probably due to poor tuning
but the strange noise was still a concern.....
the noise was getting a little worse as time went on threw that month ... ( i had atkins who are 25 yr experiance with rotarys listen to the noise and they coudlnt even identify it....
not sure what it is, at first i thought it may be a bearing... but ive drove a rotary with a spun bearing and the noise was not even close....
anyways ill be tearing the motor down within this month hopefully and post what i find the strange noise to be..

Im working on an S5 Jspec right now, dont know what company it came from but i picked it up form a guy in Pasadena, It poor man comp tested good and had about 5 quarts of oil in it turn smooth and has 6 GOOD wooshes nicely... so until i really comp test it, it seems like its a good motor. Its definently cleaned up REALLY good.

mine arrived with 90 psi on both rotors from corksport. took the car to the track and ran a 14.2 @ 97 mph. 3 months later replaced the alternator/water pump belt with a dayco POS and the ****** snapped and overheated the engine badly. engine then had 40 psi on the rear rotors since all the springs inside the engine were flat on the rear rotor and had melted corner seal rubbers...

Nippon Motors they got it here in like 3 days Cali-Ohio. 1200 with shipping. Using the plugs that came in it and 1 year old gas I turned it over just to see if it would and the damn thing started! I am still not done with the rest of the car but it seems strong and on a autozone comp test shows 120+

Also should ask the reason for it only lasting that long: Still driving it and thus have only driven X miles, rebuilt it after X miles for the heck of it or it died after X miles.

Just how many people just slap the engine in their car versus ripping it apart and replacing the all the seals, springs, gaskets and bearings? And probably the turbo for that matter...
I'd imagine a J-Spec would last plenty long if you properply rebuilt it... since mileage in Japan and mileage in the US are two COMPLETELY different things (why do you think cars with 50,000 miles are in the junk yard in Japan? Because they've been driven to death or wrecked while being driven to death. The Japanese consider 100,000+ miles to be extremely high).
At least the housings and stuff are good for cores, so I hear.
Also, if JSPECAUTO has been selling people motors without doing compression tests and GARUNTEEING the engine is in starting condition (at least internally) as they do on their site, that is a breach of contract and you shouldn't have to pay a cent (But that doesn't mean you get to keep the engine if you don't pay for it...lol).
The fact that they don't warrantee rotaries doesn't get them out of having to maintain the terms of their garuntee that they test the engines.
