how long did/has your J-spec last(ed)?

i'm curious to know how many people have installed J-specs without rebuilding and seeing how long some have lasted without any problems. maybe post your driving habits as well and/or your mods if any.

J-Rat 05-02-06 07:03 PM

Not long.. Few months max. Think I might have detonated though..

gxlspeeder 05-02-06 07:04 PM

The one in my old car has lasted for over a year and 10k+ miles now.

s4 turbo

MattB 05-02-06 07:08 PM

ran great...idled good...i drove "spirited" and it all of a sudden ran on one rotor out of no where...it was idling in my driveway when it blew...

hondahater 05-02-06 07:11 PM

my jspec was a freakin' beast! I had all sorts of turbos on it and not the best tuning......or none at all really and that thing always was strong as hell. There was even two people before me that had the car with the jspec engine in it and they knew nothing of rx7s and just drove the crap out of it and it never gave them problems. Really all my problems started happening after I descided to rebuild the jspec motor.

cdaleracer669 05-02-06 07:21 PM

not a personal experience, but i knew someone that had one and it lasted a very short time. i think everyone should post where they got their JSPEC engines from also.

NOPR 05-02-06 07:25 PM

mine was nice and strong with my microtech, but i had to swtich to a haltech and on its maiden haltech voyage it overheated like a bitch and spit coolant all over the ground. might just bee the thermostat, but its probably a coolant seal. Still, the compression is GREAT and the turbo spools FAST. after a rebuild (if necessary) im sure it will kick ass.

DarkKnightFC 05-02-06 07:51 PM

Well I bought mine from jspecautosports in Canada. It was blown when I got it. I asked them about replacing it or refunding me, they said no way, and I said I'm going to a lawyer. They laughed and said good luck, we're in canada. $1250 down the drain. So I took it to Kevin @ RR. Rebuilt it and its been whipping much ass for over a year now. Also had to have the tranny rebuilt. I hope Ismael from jspecauto has children and they contract cancer and then he goes to hell.

HHAHAHAHh JSPEC auto can SUCK MY BALLS (literally) 6 months ago i ordered a complete motor w/ ecu and trans 1800$ later it got here. Well the reason why i went with them is because they said they dont sell bad motors and they give compression tests w/ the motor. So when the motor arrives i get a blank piece of paper w/ no comp #s. I imediatly call them up and all he tells me is that u should have read the disclaimer and they dont warranty 13Bs because they cant test them, i said u can still use a reg. tester to get some result, but really didnt give a shit. I go back out the garage and attempt the "poor mans" comp. test, and couldnt even get the damn thing to turn over WTF. Squirt a lil oil in there and using a breaker bar i finally get the motor to spin free. ALL I GET is 1 good WHOOSH sound, Damn near all the seals are stuck due to RUST . Anyways the motor is still sitting in my garage soaking in MMO, i dont expect that motor to last but maybe a month (if im lucky) but i cant afford a rebuild right now due to school. So 1800$ later all i have to say is " A lesson lived is a lesson learned" that and Jspecauto can go to hell (and suck my balls)

More people answer this! asap! I kind of need to know.

JStewart 05-02-06 09:04 PM

well jspec is a waste of money! i didnt buy it for the JDM factor, just cuz there easier to come by, save urself some money and it may take a lil time but just find a USDM motor.

driftin8ez 05-02-06 09:09 PM

i got mine from osaka for $1000. I came with this thing https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/ummm-what-heck-517282/. and oh ya it has been wooping sti's and evo's for about three months and 4000 miles. Mods... full 3" exhaust, KS Tuned ECU, TID Mod, MSD 6al, Porting wastegate. Series 5 motor in my series 5 N/A convert.

JStewart 05-02-06 09:15 PM

I thought i was lucky cuz i got a exedy clutch and Re-dom Ecu w/ mine. UNTILLLLL... i read ur post hah lucky bastard

tr4c3 05-02-06 09:17 PM

You and your damn os clutch and flywheel. Luck sob. I was thinking of buying a jspec, but I think I'll just rebuild my engine. Still not sure.

Terrh 05-02-06 10:19 PM

I've had 3 and ZERO problems with any of them!

I kept blowing them up due to bad tuning but I'm pretty sure I would have blown up any of them.

The best one had 115 PSI compression after I decarbonized it, and I got it for a crazy deal because it had 0PSI when I bought it! (all the seals were intact so I went for it)

iceblue 05-02-06 10:22 PM

2 months if that 2k or so.

2.5in straight exhaust with chamberd mufflers.
FMIC
11psi
Ported intake
Ported knived polished TB
Maz speed flywheel
no emissions or nest
fd pump
RB baffle pan

I think the majority of people here like to drive their FC at like 7K rpm "all the time."
Yeh, they won't last long like that. Anyone who daily drives and once in a while hits it? With proper maintenance... so how long?

This is true, it all depends how u drive it

arghx 05-02-06 11:40 PM

fuck the crap shoot

You're better off buying an already blown motor and getting it rebuilt then getting 5-10k out of a Jspec. Give Landers or Turrentine a call. I knew one guy who had a Jspec in a completely stock 87 T2 and it ran pretty strong, but it sounds like he was an exception.

MaczPayne 05-03-06 12:10 AM

I have a jspec that isn't running yet. I got 3 strong wooshes when I spun the crank, so I figure it still has very good compression. Came with an automatic flywheel and counterweight too lol. $1100 S5 long block.

JStewart 05-03-06 01:14 AM

ummmm... 3 good whooshes? u mean 6 right? and as far as i know, J-specs only came in manuals, i may be wrong though... im drunk sorry!

teamfuel 05-03-06 01:56 AM

I originally ordered a motor from jspecauto in canada and they promised that I would get it within 10 days, 3 weeks later (and about 10 calls to them) they finally tell me that they were still waiting on the container that it was on to arrive...I cancelled the order (filled it as fraudulent with my card company) and ordered on from SunriseJapanese in canada for $1400 shipped and it arrived in 8 days (it even got caught in customs for a couple of days) fired up the first time and is running strong a year and half later (12k) and I am running more boost than stock (close to 12psi).

Awesome Congrats, wish i had done the same

budfc3s 05-03-06 02:17 AM

mine started up fine, no smoke but only ran on one rotor, due to dirty injectors. has great compression. seals are holding up fine, even though it sat for 7 months at my house. actually havent picked the car up from KDR yet so as soon as i do i will let you know how the engine holds up, bought the jspec from jspecauto.com
