How to install an water temp gauge?

I have done some searching and did not find any threads that talk about how to install an electrical water temp gauge. This is one from auto meter. I may have over looked some threads so if anybody can help point me in the right direction that would be great. I am looking for places other people have installed the sensor probe to their ride. I was thinking of placing it in the drain plug hole of the engine its self?? Where might be the best place to get the most accurate reading?
Thanks in advance.

I have a water temp gauge on my 91 TII. I did this with the water pump and housing off the engine.

You need to have the sensor before the thermostat. Splicing it into the hose is a waste of time.

If your not sure why....check out

They have a great write up on who a coolant system works.

I drilled my hole right before the thermostat in the waterpump housing. The material is alum so it goes easily. I then borrowed a Tap&Die set and made some threads in my new hole.

Wait, I did this with the water pump on. Huh, werd

I had a friend drill the hole...and I had a vacuum sucking the shavings out of the upper rad hose. I didn't have the thermostat in at this point.

I have a great picture of my install...but I won't be home for a while. Sorry

And just to clarify the sensor is in the front of the water pump housing.
