Unless you have the hand of someone who has done this before I would advise against DIY on the spring install. If you are the "I'm gonna do it if it kills me type" then just be careful because this job can be dangerous if taken lightly.

The key tool you will need would be a spring compressor. Could be rented for relativly cheap. If used improperly the spring could slip out and literally take your head off.

If you are putting on nice powder coated springs I would recomend nylon strap ratcheting type spring compressor. They help resist damage to the coating.

If you can get a spring shock combo that comes with the shock already in the spring it wound make it much easier.

Since I am not a psychic through the computer screen, only you can know what your capabilities are. If you have to ask then you don't yet know. Yet.

Get a copy of the Haynes manual and the FSM online. Study. Read. Learn.

Then you will have an idea if you can do the job. It's not difficult. But: It is one of those jobs that can be dangerous, if done improperly.

Once you learn what is required to do the job, then you can assess the tools you have availible and decide if you want to tackle it yourself.

I found when I was young that the best way to learn was to watch someone else. Drove my dad nuts. Especially when I pointed out an error in assembly when he was nearly done with a brake job and he missed step 2, and had to start over.

If you are not sure, get some experienced help, or help someone else with thier job and share the labor on both.

Whats the big deal guys its only struts and springs... I installed my ground control setup myself without any issues. Its pretty easy but there are a couple tricks to it on these cars. You have to remove the rear speakers on the rear strut towers to access the rear strut mounting bolts. This is a good time to consider replacing those speakers (if you haven't already). I had to make custom mounts for mine since they were larger diameter speakers but all it takes is some thin plywood and a band saw to make the mounts. If they aren't already packed its also a good idea to pack the area beneath the speakers with foam as it helps the quality of the sound. My rear speakers sound much better then the ones in the hollow doors up front.
Do take caution removing the stock struts. I nearly had a spring accident myself once because I didn't use a proper spring compressor. If you dont wanna buy your own get a loaner from Auto Zone.
One last note, do not untighten the center bolt on top of the strut before you remove them. That is meant to keep the spring compressed. The other bolts hold the whole assembly to the car. You can remove the center bolt once you remove the strut and slowly untighten the spring compressor. The travel of the shock itself will take all the tension out of the spring. You may not even have to remove that bolt unless you need to re-use the upper mount. (the part with the bolts sticking out)
Well goodluck. You can always e-mail me if you need more help.

I second th suggestion of a nylon strap compressor, i bought the steel screw kind and it was hell. You see it will onyl work if you have the turning nut on the top when you install the spring making it a bitch and a half to get off. I had to snap them sideways forcefully and damage the finish on my eibach. Not thta I cared but for someone who does thta would suck.

I used this procedure too. Worked great! But do be careful compessing springs because they have a large amount of potential energy. I used a Craftsman Spring compressor, ~$25. Make sure you install new strut mounts too-makes the ride like new.
