use the tubing from the throttle body, till it gets to the MAF sensor. remove everything after the MAF and just pop the filter on.

I'm using cwsttu's writeup for making the CAI. But i have a hose running from the filter housing to the air pump. I don't know what to do with the hose and I'm afraid that if i disconnect the air pump then I won't be able to use the 5th and 6th ports b/c i think they're activated by air pump pressure. I also have 2 hoses running from the tubing that goes into the TB. Maybe the difference is that I have an s5, and if this is the case, can someone point me in the right direction? Or does cwsttu have his air pump/emissions stuff disconnected? Or can anyone just tell me where to put the hoses? I'm considering making 3 holes for all of the hoses on the CAI sys. Any help would be appreciated.

hey i dont know what happened to those pics... ill talk to my buddy that owns putfile and see whats up

and bob boberson i do have my emmisions disconnecte including the air pump mainly because i was a s4 and my ports are activated via backpressure. you can just run two new hoses and your set... one that goes from the tubing to the air pump and one that goes to what your calling the Tb but its just connected to it and not actually part of the throttle body.... that hose runs to the BAC which controls your idle with electrical loads on.... you should be set after that, any s5 owners feel free to correct me

Thanks for the info cwsttu. When I said, "I also have 2 hoses running from the tubing that goes into the TB", I was talking about the hoses that run from the piping just under the elbow of the throttle body. I searched around though and found an s5 writeup, and found out how I could mod your setup to make an s5/emissions friendly setup. I personally think that your write up is great. Thanks again.

btw, I'm using a small T elbow to connect the 2 vaccum hoses to my CAI setup. Would a metal or plastic type T elbow work best? I want to use a brass tee w/ male hose barbs as stated by NZConvertible in another forum, but idk where i could find one. The only real places I have around here that I know of are Home Depot, Lowes, and Wal-mart(which i doubt will have one). Here it is done w/ plastic elbow and post office tape No offense, but I don't want my setup to look like that and don't want to worry about melting or leaks. Once again, any info would be appreciated.

glad i could help out... about the T elbow i bought a bunch of them at autozone or advance, it was a value pack of about 6 different sizes varying from tiny to about 1 inch wide T elbows, try that first and if that doesnt work i know lowes will have them, i think in the gas fittings dep. you can use plastic without any worries melting will happen unless your motor catches on fire then yeah everything will melt. leaks are only good for as well as you install the, maybe get a few small o ring clamps if your worried about it

Does anyone think it is absolutely necessary to use thermal tape if you're using aluminum piping for the CAI?

is it basically plug and play when installing a cone into the S5? well after you remove the original air filter box of course.

try talking to Ddub on this forum, he made a pretty damn nice CAI out of a generic ebay prelude intake, a dremel/cutting tool, and the piping goes all the way from the TB to the filter.

Picture1: those three bolts are filter box frame-mount
Picture2: you're pointing at the hose goes to air pump
picture3: that's upper coolent pipe goes to radiator. the connector leads to MAP, and you have to have it connected.

after you removed filter box, if the end of MAP block is square, then you need a adapter to convert square to round.

as for intake piping... just using stock plastic pipe.

and for the hose goes to air pump, i would extend the section between adapter and CAI so i will have fresh filtered air with no restrictions.

Be careful when tooling around with the MAF, it's a part you don't want to break.
It reads the mass of incoming air and sends a signal to the ECU to send the proper amount of fuel to the motor. Don't break it.

I'm not sure on S5, but on my S4 the MAF was bolted to the bottom of air filter housing. When you unbolt the housing, don't yank on it and rip the wires coming from the MAF...if it is bolted to the air filter housing.

Here's a pic of mine from my S4...S5 should be similar?

That box will need to be removed. Just uplug the wire. That tube going into the box (engine side) is for the air pump. If you would stop looking at eBay intakes and try something like Bonez, you'll get a air pump breather.

You then put on the AFM adapter using the existing bolts, strap on the intake, and use the coupling to tie it down. Its not that hard.

TO finally make it a true CAI buy a VinSpeed cold air box or do what was recommended earlier in the thread.

ok .. where is the MAF in your pic??!
and is the box in my pictures MAF?
i read that you need to leave something ... a sensor that tells how much air is getting inside so it will give according to that gas to the engine..?!

sorry guys .. im gettin close , but still confused
