How to improve gas mileage?

Well, I don't have an Rx-7 but I have been debating whether to get an FC3S or a 240sx fastback, so I came here. One thing that really draws me away from the Rx-7 is its Gas Mileage, are there any ways to improve it?

I get 20-23 MPG on the highway running in open loop the whole time and walbro which is bumping up my fuel pressure a bit, so my car is running rich as hell. Strictly around town i get 12-14 and combined I get 18.

If your fuel curves are in check, I see no reason why you cant get 15-18 around town, 18-21 mixed and like 26 on the highway. Just takes a bit of work to get everything working the way it should.

If you are worried about the gas, get a YUGO. These care are like fine women, lots of cash to keep them purring.

I hear that Schwinn just came out with an electric ten speed!

I'm a brokeass highschool student (my senior year now) I cover my insurance and gas...the harder you drive the more gas you'll use...just don't have a lead foot...but if you're running your car every light then you'll get pretty shitty mileage when my FC was workin' properly my NA got around 16-18

I get about 15MPG on my T2. My fuel filter and O2 sensor need to be changed, that should get me about 17-20MPG.

Is there a website I can look up Stock Car specs? Like 0-60, 1/4 mile, Handling? I want to see the 240sx and the Rx-7 side by side.

my last turboII with a 3 inch straight pipe exhaust got about 10mpg city and about 18 highway.
On a hot day, I think I burned a higher number of gallons of gas then I got out of it in miles......hahahahahah

Ty, seems to be mostly for drifting but it kind of helps. I think I might email the guy with some questions.

Yeah, the fuel figures posted are pretty typical. If its in good condition, you can get 16 or 17 solid in town, 18-21 in mixed, and 25+ highway. I actually managed 30 a few times, but it was truly solid highway with no acceleration.
With my driving, I got about 17-18, in typical driving, but that was a good bit of city, some highway, and some backroads carving. I'm also pretty damn lead-footed.

Well I live in a suburbia I guess you could say. So there will be a lot of "city miles" I guess, although its not really like a city with bumper-bumper traffic etc. So I guess i'd be getting a mix. I'd like to know what pushed people to buy the FC3S over any other car regardless of the bad gas mileage.

Well, I got it back when gas was half its current price. lol
Seriously, though, I just fell in love with the car. I have wanted an rx-7 ever since I first saw a CYM R1 way back in '93. Since I knew I couldn't afford a 3rd gen I set my sights on the 2nd gen. I researched them a lot and just wanted one even more. Several years ago, I needed a new car and found one with all the mods I wanted already done to it in town, and talked to the guy about it. I ended up driving it and instantly fell in love. It was the most amazing car I had ever driven. Now I'm hooked and can never go back.

First things first, why are you set on a 240 or an FC?

FC's are great cars, but you're just not going to get great gas mileage with them period. If you can handle getting ~17 mpg in the city, then go for it. Otherwise, perhaps look into getting a Miata, MR2, or hell, something FWD? Like a Civic, or Sentra SE-R, or something?

it all depends.

1, are u gettin a na or a turbo

2, if u get a na, it wont be THAT bad because u use 87 octane so it shouldnt be alotta money.

3, if u get t2, ur gonna be using 91 octane so juss dont boost as much. keep ur revs at like 2.5 - 3 widout flooring it all the way. what I do is when im juss driving around, i dont boost at all cuz no matter how fast ur going, ull eventually reach a red light and the cars behind u will catch up . floor it if a civic tries to race u or floor it when ur gonna go get gas hehe.

4, rotary engines take alotta gas so ur gonna have to suck it up and deal wid it.

5, put it this way. get a car that will turn heads and pay a lil more for gas, or get a car that everybody knows and get about the same gas mileage. i will leave that decision to u DD I too wanted to get a 240 to **** around but my friend wid a s14 said that he gets 14 mpg!!

All your doing with 91 is wasting money and losing alittle bit of power. Use the cheapest crap you can find hahaha

Coupe is just that... a coupe, not a 'vert. GXL is a model.

Well, they are both in the same price range. They are pretty cheap for an awesome look. Im not concerned on getting the best gas mileage thats just one thing thats bothering me about the Rx-7.

Also to those that have driven 240s (Fastbacks preferably) hows the handling, speed, acceleration compared to a na FC? (I cant seem to find any T2's out here).

Gas mileage with these cars is a pointless issue unless you have technical issues that need to be addressed. Unless I'm on empty or know it will be a while till I can find a station or some similiar situation I'm driving the car for what it is, a sports car meant to be driven. Last thing on my mind just about any time I'm in my cars is mpg.

But, to answer the question. Proper tune-up and other maintenence on the car, tires and driving habits.

Octane for the other questions, 87 is fine and all you need unless you have mods and want/need to protect from detonation.
