How important is power steering?

I've learned that finding a S5 with ps still intact is going to be a bitch, and I really want an s4 anyways.. but the whole no ps thing scares me.

How hard would it be to use a car without ps for an everyday driver.. and drifting on the weekends? Never driven a car without ps.. just a lil worried!

Well a lot of the S5's I see for sale have had the ps removed for weight savings.... not to mention S5's for sale are kinda rare... at least it seems that way.

Actually, in drifting you're steering mostly with the throttle, so it doesn't really matter if you do or if you don't have it.

That's whimps, and I agree, i've ripped the power steering off on every rx7 i've come accross, and I daily drive that thing like crazy and autocross it and everything else you can imagine, and I have no problems at all. Either you're one pathetic little tooth pick, or you're just extremely paranoid. It's really not nearly as bad as you think.

Ditch the PS man you don't need it and it clears up a lot of space in the e-bay.

Yea.. I guess I'm going s4 now.. and with the money I save I'll have some more $ for upgrades. S4's are lighter anyways.

I've been thinking of taking out the PS pump out but still running the PS steering rack. Is this possible and ok with the other components? I don't really like the higher ratio for the manual rack and buying one too.

Uh, it's not like all S4s came without Power Steering...

Anyway, it's not that hard. It takes a little extra grunt, but it's not like a titanic effort. Feels better in the long run.

Real weird to drive when you're high, though, and when you get back into a car with power steering, you CRANK the wheel at first.

If you remove the PS, you can forget about palming the wheel anymore.
