Hey just had a track day at laguna seca this weekend. I thought I'd chime in because my experiences seem pertainent to this thread. I did 3 of my six run groups. I had cooling issues all day. My heater hose cracked and I never managed to purge the air from the system all day. I have an 88 GXL and I have an aftermarket and stock gauge. All day my aftermarket gauge was @ 220* and my stock one was about 2mm or about a 10* sweep from hitting the first danger mark on the gauge. I thought for sure my engine was gonna die. Nope. I'm all good. I'm impressed with the accuracy of the S4 gauge. Not so much with the S5. I was asking the other S5 owners where they were at and it was always half. It seems to me that it is just either cold, running temp, or overheating. In retrospect I think a coolant gauge in an s4 is unnecessary and I probably should have flushed my coolant before the track day. The heater hose however I didn't see coming.

My S5 runs at about 1/2 or a little under during normal driving, little bit over with 8,000rpm spirited driving. Its been pegged about 3 or 4 times in my posession, but its still running, no worse, no better. I really would like to obtain a new radiator as well as a Scirocco dual E-fan. I have a puller fan from a '95 Eclipse on it right now, as well as a pusher on my oil cooler (which the motor conveniently seized up on). Oil temps are always gravy though. I'm really concerned with getting it rebuilt (or TII swapped) because it has about 191,900 miles on the original motor.

Here’s my issue and maybe some one here can shed some light on it for me......
I have had A LOT of bad experiences with RX7s and over heating, so I'm always looking at my temp gauge.

I just got my car back from being built and I'm driving the car for the break in miles. I have a FMIC, stock oil cooler, Koyo radiator, Black magic electric fan and both the upper and lower radiator panels with an auto meter temp gauge. Today while driving on the highway at about 75mph the temp was at about 210 - 215ish and I started to freak out. Does anybody else have issues with cooling and running a FMIC?
I just don’t understand why the car got so hot considering I haven’t even boosted it at all. I have been driving like a normal person on a normal Sunday drive and it still got that hot.

PLEASE any help would be great.
