how the hell did my caliper break?

so yesterday i was driving in traffic and as i try to stop for the light i feel my brake pedal go soft, but its only soft when i apply the brakes from 0-25% pedal applied. And it gets feels firm and normal once i past the 25% mark.

so the same day i go out for a meet and when i was about to head home from it my brake pedal just went to the floor completely, i basically drove home 10mines use e and comp braking.

today i take a look at my rear drivers side caliper cuz so i thought one of my bleeder valves was loose, and turns out it was only a bit, but upon further inspection the leek was also coming from the back of the caliper.

when i pumped it, it fountained brake fluid from the back of the caliper, like their was a hole in it or something. basically felt like one of my bleeder valves was open, but were tight.

so im obviously getting a new caliper, but what boggles me is that how the hell did this happen? a frick'n hole in the caliper?

does any one have experience was caliper failure?

by the way mine is a 88 gx

Have you actually seen this hole or are you just assuming there must be one?
Much more likely that the piston seal tore than the caliper body sprung a leak.
