how hard can i push it?
Hey, i just did a turbo II swap in my N/A and due to budget restrictions, i did not swap the transmission, driveshaft, or rear end yet. I have heard stories of the transmission breaking, or the rear end not holding up to the power increase, i was wonder what are the stipulations of this, how hard can i push it.
thank you
thank you
Just drive it. You can break turbo parts too when driving hard. It will hold up for some time unless you make considerably more than the stock turbo output unless you just beat on it all of the time.
Don't get sideways-very important. Thats how I broke my NA trans, well first gear anyway. Avoid sudden throttle inputs, and don't launch or drop the clutch at all. Don't shift fast either.

You can enjoy it as long as you can face that you might need to get it towed at a random time, lol. I beat the **** out of my NA trans getting sideways and 3 launches from 5k RPM with an ACT S1 and 225 Falken Azenis's and it still lasted like 3k miles...my first gear gave me engagement problems before too when the car was NA so it also depends on the condition of your trans.

How much power the NA transmission will hold depends on a lot of things. With over 400 wheel HP, mine held up for two years. Multiple Friday nights spent at the 1/4 mile, loads of street tuning, 3rd, 4th and 5th gear dyno runs, burnouts at the track, 1st - 4th traction losses, etc. What finally broke it was a night at the 1/4 mile where the air temps were very cool. Track temps were cold so I warmed the tires a bit and made my run. Now it whines a bit. I think I did something to the cluster shaft bearings. Car still drives fine, but I am planning a transmission replacement with a beefier unit (not TII).

While the NA driveline might be weaker than a TII it all depends on the condition of the car and the driving be done. I'd say just drive it man, you've already swapped the engine and are planning on doing the rest sooner or later. So whatever breaks first gets replaced with bigger and better stuff. Your bound to eventually break something, all mechanical items wear, so just be prepared for when it happens.
Use the trans gear sets from the b series trucks they last longer and have better ratios for quicker take offs, and handle more TQ.. at least they do for me..also you will need to swap out some parts ..bell housing, tailshaft housing and some other odds and ends.
