how to find timing w/o pulley mark

Hey guys, I'm begining to think my idle problems are due to my CAS being off by a tooth or so, the problem is that my "crank" (?) pulley has long since lost it's nice outer coating, so I don't have any of the marks. How can I find TDC or atleast where the mark should be?

The marks are there, they are indentet(SP?) on the pulley, use any nails color and mark them
