How to figure Out if your VDI aux ports and Variable Dynamic intake work properly
How to figure Out if your VDI aux ports (5th and 6th ports after 3500 rpm) and Variable Dynamic intake (after 5000rpm) work properly?
There is a stop on the pivot point connecting the actuator rod to the sleeves. Apply grease to the end of the stop (where it connects, there is a part that looks like a hook, this is the "stop"). If you go out and drive and you go above the rpm limit, this grease will move or be applied to the metal stop on the outisde of the actuator housing on the manifold.
If you don't know what I mean by "stop" you'll be able to see it once you go look at it on the car.

you can test 5th and 6th with grease just stick it on the actuators and go for a drive if the grease moves they work. (don't forget to wipe the grease off or it will collect dirt and jam them up)

If this is an S5, the grease method doesn't work well since the rods push out instead of pulling into the actuator. This does work well for an S4 though.
Seeing from your post, it seems you have an S5. There are "pivot" rods on the actual manifolds. For the 5/6th ports, the actuator (UFO shaped objected) connected to the "pivot rod" on the actual manifold. If you can apply grease to a section of this "pivot rod", as the ports open, grease will be smeared.
On the Upper intake manifold for the variable dynamic intake, it may be tricker since the actuator sits in an ackward position.
These are just two methods and remember, this only applies for S5 RX7's. Other methods for testing include jumping the terminals on the actual solenoids (located on left side of engine with all the emissions junk) for the VDI and 5 & 6th ports and see if they open up when solenoids get voltage applied.
For an S4, apply grease on the BASE of the actuator rod (where rod meets body of actuator). As ports open up, rod on actuator pulls INTO the actuator, smearing grease all over rod.
