how does a fuel pulsation dampner fail?
just curious how a fpd fails. it seems very likely after inspecting the one on my 10th Anniversary that either the seal around the screw in the center becomes hard and brittle or that the screw backs out (which mine did and was not yet leaking) or that the crush washers fail. is there a possibility of internal diaphram failure? i had a fuel leak on the hose that runs over the front iron to the primary rail and i decided to inspect the fpd since the rail was out and i discovered that the screw in the center of the fpd had backed out and was rattling around under the cover. odd that the thing was not leaking... i inspected the tiny i-ring and re-tightened the screw. seems fine....or should i replace the thing?

Screw falling out does not mean it failed.

Screw falling out does not mean it failed.
In fact, trying to reinstall the screw is more likely to cause it to fail.
The soft diaphram inside the PD tends to rip.
When it rips, fuel leaks into the "hat".
Since the hat isn't tighyl sealed, the fuel leaks out and onto the engine.
