How do you know you need a new waterpump?

I just pulled mine out, in a few words I can describe the experience

WHAT A F*CKING NIGHTMARE

ugh, good thing I can't sleep, cause I was out since 12am till just now 2:50 finishing that crap up.

Anyways I have this thing sitting on my desk, and well, it looks fine. Other than the rust and paint chipping on the front, the actual turbine wheel looks mint. One thing that amazed me, was the lack of corrosion in the system. WHen I pulled the pump out, I looked inside the housing and it was a nice shiny aluminum! there was no lime or deposits whatsoever, very impressed. I was planning on buying a new housing from mazdatrix, but thats completley unnecessary with the condition mines in.

anyways.

Yea the fins are fine, im assuming the only reason that you need to replace it is due to corrosion of the blades right?

I think I'll just clean it up, sand it down and paint it.

One thing I couldn't ******* take off was the power steering belt.. the little bolt that moves the pully upwards to tighten the belt would not loosen the belt! I was loosening it and the bolt was starting to come out, the pully is like frozen in position! I tried wackin it with a hammer (not to hard, didn't want to wake nieghbors) and it wouldn't budge. SO i tried to tighten it, maybe budge it loose, I was tightening it but it wouldnt go back the other way.. ugh.

any ideas?

You have to loosen the pulley first, it is threaded.

Another reason to replace a water pump would be if coolant is leaking out of the 'weep hole'

It would mean that the seal is going bad.

the castings should last forever.
Usually, after 100,000 miles the seal and/or the bearings just wear out.

When you pull the pump, the pump housing often comes loose from the front iron.
Be sure to reseal it.

lol, I've never changed a friggen belt before, now I get it. Thanks.

The bearing seems to be fine, and the little hole does not leak coolant, im leaving it for now.

thx guys, appreciate it.
