Try this... this is how I confirmed that both coils worked, even thought they wouldn't activate the timing light correctly...
Pull the plug wires off your trailing (top) plugs... Hang them off the side of the car or something, and try to start your car with ONLY the leading wires connected... It should start and run decently... Maybe a little rougher, but not "bad"... Power will be slightly reduced...
Now, do the same thing, but only leave the TRAILING wires connected.. Should start and run about the same...
Point is that it only takes ONE of these to make the car "start" and "run". The other set is to make it run more smoothly, efficiently, and emissions friendly, as well as giving you more power and gas mileage. If either is bad, the car will run like absolute crap, if it all.. If, say, half the trailing isn't working, it'll act like it's running on one rotor..
My car started and ran fine with only one set (both sets..one at a time) in.. I couldn't even tell the difference between both, only trailing, and only leading! (but i was only in neutral)
Oh..and rev it up a bit to make sure the problem isn't at higher rpm's.

this is what happens.......
when i go to start it usually, as with everyone, if you watch the tach, it will bounce consistantly. what happens is it will either not move at all, and i can crank till im blue in the face and it wont start...or it bounce half as much as it does normally, and it wont start in that case either.
but if i turn the key back so it clicks, it will evntually get all the bounces...and then fire up.
meaning i reset, if you will, the ecu..by cranking, getting nothing, turning the key back to accessories...and then trying again. this may take 2 seconds, or 2 days, its weird. but it doesnt happen when its warm for some reason. as far as i can tell.
i might be wrong, but the tach runs off the leading coil, so i might be wrong again, but that might indicate that theres something going on with my leading coil, leading coil ignition wires, or my leading plugs.
doe this make sense?
but once i get it started, its fine.
