How do I stop beeping because of my new steering wheel?

Okay, here's the deal- I have an aftermarket steering wheel, which I installed a month ago. I've aligned it properly, but my power steering computer will not stop giving me the 5 beeps saying that the steering wheel is not installed properly. I am sick of hearing it beep, and I'm not sure my sensor actually works anymore.

However, I don't want to disable whatever is making the beeping sound; I just want to trick the car into permanently thinking the steering wheel is installed the way it wants it to be.

So, how do I force the power steering computer to believe the steering wheel alignment sensor is functional and that the steering wheel is actually aligned?

Please don't waste my time with "re-align you steering wheel"; I have.

Well, you've botched something.

I've installed numerous aftermarket steering wheels, removable hubs etc on the FC and have never had a steering related beep because of the wheel install.

Does your speedometer work?

Yes, my speedometer works just fine. Everything on the car is fine, as far as I can tell, except that the power steering computer is very angry with me.

How sensitive is the steering sensor? i.e. how far can it be misaligned and still think it is aligned? half a degree? ten degrees?

Also, how sensitive is the piece at the bottom that (i believe) senses when the wheel is installed? do I need to torque the nut which holds on the steering wheel to a very exact amount?

To my knowledge, on every FC I've put steering wheels in and out ot, there are only a few wires running through to the wheel - turn signal disconnect, and the horn.

The turn signal disconnect fits into the stock steering wheel or an aftermarket hub ONE way. You may be able to reverse it, and can certainly make it out of alignment (ie. the wheel and disconnect are not straight when the wheels are straight) but neither of those should have anything to do with your power steering computer.

The thing that you think is a "steering wheel install sensor" is for the horn's trigger wire. It has absolutely nothing to do with sensing whether or not a steering wheel is present in the car.

Your problem lies elsewhere.

And do you ACTUALLY know its the powersteering computer thats beeping? If you unplug it, does the beeping stop?

same thing

Im having the same problem with my 87. I installed an aftermarket steering wheel off ebay, but also installed 4-point seatbelts the same day. I get the 5 beeps then a pause and then repeat, also the seatbelt light comes on when I first start the fc up. I don't know what to do otherwise, but that F'in beeepin is annoying.
