How do I know if my engines been ported?
I am the third owner of my car ( i think) bought it from a dealer and they gave me the number of the previous owner who i called to ask about what had been done to it. He told me about the exhaust and clutch and belt and fluid changes. but he didnt really have much history on the car. so for all i know it could have been rebuilt at some point and streetported. is there any way i can tell?

If you're running stock ECU and your car is fairly stock then it isn't any bigger than a streetport. You would be able to tell with half or full bridge.
Another good way to test if it's been rebuilt is to check the compression. It wont be for sure but it can give you a good idea. Also look for any marking stamped into the housings or on the front cover. Mazda reman engines have some sort of serial number on the front cover if I remember correctly, not positive. My motor has been rebuilt by Atkins, you can tell this by the date stamped on the rear rotor housing and the warranty tape on the front eshaft nut.

Without taking the engine apart you wont really ever know "for sure." You might get an idea but that's about it.
One thing you can do is look inside the exhaust port and see if it looks ported. Turn the engine by hand until there is no apex seal in the way of the exhaust port and feel inside there, also reaching into the engine and onto the housing. See if it feels smoothed out or bigger than expected. Also, check the runners of the intake ports and see if those have been polished or cleaned up. If both of those are true, it's ported most likely, but if neither are I'm gonna guess it's not.

Not true. You can tell very easily by looking down the intake/exhaust ports if it's been ported or not.

You need to take the intake OFF and look down the runners on the irons. I wouldn't look to much at the sides but all the way in the back it should be very rough and have a few sharp andgles where the machining was done.
Hook up a vac gauge and run the car.
