Exclamation How do I get my speedometer gear out?

When I bought my 87 gxl the speedo wasn't working, I've been dealing with it (and the constant beeping) untill I could find the time to fix it. I've tracked it down to the gear in my tranny but i'm not sure how to get it out of there. I took off the cable and one bolt but it wont come out! I pryed on it lightly so see if I could knock it lose but its no good, I can turn it in the socket a few degrees untill it gets to tight to turn by hand but I dont know what good that is. Can anyone tell me how to get this damn thing out? Or at least tell me where that damn little beeper is so I can go in there and unplug it. I really want to know how fast I'm going and its really starting to **** me off.....

P.S. I can provide pics of what I'm working with if it would be usefull

I snapped that that bolt on my tranny. suckage. The speedo drive is held with a bungee cord that wraps around the tranny.

To be honest, only way I forsee you getting that bolt out of the tranny is to drop the entire tranny and drill it out. Theres no room to drill up there. Sad but true.

I didn't snap any bots, the speedo cable and that little 10 mm came out without problems, its getting the gear out of the tranny thats the problem. I dont know much about working on tranys so I dont wanna break anything.

Iirc, it pulls straight out. It's a tight fit because of the o-ring seal. Try some PB blaster and keep twisting and pulling.

thanks for the info, I undid everything, gave it a few twists and a yank then POP, came right out. Of coarse so did a bunch of nice black fluid.... ****! and they dont sell my kinda tranny fluid around here, ****! I only lost about 1/4 of a quart to the ground, am I stranded till I track down some new fluid? good thing I ordered new redline oils for my car yesterday, course It'll take 2 weeks to get here. And to top it all off, I didn't even get a good look at my speedo gear before i had to stuff it back in the hole! ****!

1/4 of a quart? Not enough to be concerned about.
