how do i check compresion

when i bought my 87 TII the place that i bought it from said that i had a blown motor. i got it home and tried to start it.. just to see... after putting tranny fluid in each rotor, and got it started it Smoked all Nasty like. then we where playing with it for a little bit. revving it.. and took it up to about 10k and it blew oil all over the shop and smoked like there was no tomorrow. then with out thinking i pulled the motor out and for got to check compresion... so now i don't know how to do it with the motor out on the shop floor.

if you know how to do this let me know, that would be great.

thanks michael
