how do I change a rear wheel stud WTF!?!!!??!?!two

I'm trying to change a rear wheel stud on my 10AE.. I got the brake rotor off (pain in the ***, screws were sized on), got the big axle nut off (bent my breaker bar to do that), now I can't figure out how to get the abs sensor unit/hub off. Do I need to remove the wheel bearing or pull the whole hub assembly off to do this? what a pain in the *** this is turning into. I tried to force it off by unscrewing the dust cover bolts but all I managed to do was strip them since the hub is cast aluminum.

Someone please help me here. Thanks

Yeah, you have to take off the whole shebang. IIRC you need to get the axel off and the whole ABS assembly, then when its off the car you can undo the back of it and you'll have access to the stud. Good luck.

Negative you only have to remove the rotor on the rear. I have a artical on my blog. You have to fanagle the stud around in and out but you can get them in and out without taking the hub off. The front only requires the wheel to come off "duhh".

wheel studs aren't that challenging but its the rust that will be a problem... if you have a torch or some liquid wrench it helps... and when you put the new one on use an open nut to tighten it into place so you don't have to pound it in.

when I cahnged two of mine I toke the wheel off and if you spin the rotor you will find looking from the back that there is a hole or grove anyway light up the stud with that and hit it hard if it doesnt work get a bigger hammer puting a new stud we sliped it in hit it once or twice the put a bolt or two(wider then the stud so it acts like washers) threw the lug nut on and used an impact gun tp pull the stud into place.
Now that I totaly confused you ill try to take a pic or two but im sorry i cant do it till friday hopefully someone else can better explane what im saying
Later Mael

^ sounds like you removed a front. That little slot isnt like that on the rear.

I may be wrong now that you brought up the lug pattern and the vented rotors. I havent done a 4lug so maybe there is room back there. On a 5 lug there is not.

my car has ABS.
There is NO way for the stud to come out without removing the abs wheel.
There's no way to remove the abs wheel without removing the part the wheel bolts to.

so how do I remove that?

the abs is the reason my front bumper is still as pretty as it is.

I love my abs, even if it's a pain in the *** sometimes.

I've got ABS and when I changed my stud thats what I had to do. Once the whole this is off its alot easier to see what your dealing with and what you have to take off.

Man, I have a '88 GXL with two broken studs on the RR. I just can't wait to tear into that..... please save me from having to tear this whole hub apart.
