take out the glovebox, the control unit is behind that. Just unplug the harness.

But...

You can unplug it, but that still doesn't stop that you have something triggering it, like the hood switch or hatch switch, or one of the door switchs.

You should fix the problem rather than just unplugging.

For example if it is triggering off the hatch, and you just unplug it. You may come back to your car with a dead battery, because the hatch switch is bad and it left the hatch light on for a day or two.

Well, it depends on what year you car is. If is is a S5, then the CPU is under the kick panel by the foot rest on the drivers side. The Alarm part of the ECU is on the bottom of the unit. If you or anyone else has a factory manual, it will tell what plug it uses.

If your car is an '86-'88, than the alarm unit is located behind the glove box. If your car is an '89-'91, than the alarm unit is a circuit card that is located in the CPU near the left side kick panel. In either case, I believe that you can jsut disconnect the wire harness connector that plugs in the alarm unit.

On an occassion or two, I've had a similar problem with the alarm on my '90 GXL. Turns out, the problem was due to the door lock switch on the inside driver's door. Apparently, the switch/lock would slide downward under its own weight and "break" the continuity of the alarm circuit, which would trigger the alarm. To fix, I just took the switch apart (removed 4 small screws on back side), cleaned the circuit board, slightly streached the couple springs inside the switch, and reassembled. It has worked fine since.
